Product Description

CD Description

One of England’s great songwriters is back with the second and final part in this exceptional acoustic mini album series. Six brand new recordings that showcase his folkier side, this Limited Edition (limited to 3,000 copies in deluxe digi pack) features his original version of “Harvest Gypsies” made famous in 2006 by Kris Drever. Recorded in Scotland in July 2008 the album also features long time collaborator Eddi Reader on guest vocals This release is Boo’s personal favourite from his entire catalogue to date, an artist at the peak of his powers delivering simple beautiful songs. A full studio album featuring entirely different songs will appear on Navigator in Spring 2009. These exclusive recordings are not available anywhere else and are sure to be lapped up by his dedicated fanbase. Recent Radio plays have included Radio 2’s Bob Harris and even Aled Jones ( BBC Radio 2) where Boo was the featured artist of the week (Aug 2008). Boo tours constantly and is playing with Heidi Talbot, Eddi Reader and Drever, McCusker, Woomble and solo this Autumn. Tracks: White Lillies / Follow My Tears / Harvest Gypsies / Limelight / Stone In Your Shoe / Amen.

Wonderful!! 4 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD
My wife and I recently became big fans of Eddi Reader and, through her, Boo Hewerdine. We saw him at at local folk club in late 2008, one of the best gigs we've ever seen. We chatted to him afterwards and learned where the glorious artwork came from; I think I'm right in saying he put his surname into Ebay's search engine and it came up with these lovely examples of art, which had not known anything about. He then made Toybox 1 and 2 so he could make use of the art! As for the music, it's Boo at his best, albeit in a lovely Low-Fi way. Clearly the work of a genius, although I wish he'd polish up the production a bit. What you see is what you get with Boo though, and I hope he never changes that!

not his strongest work, but still 94.3% better than any other artiste.
for those unfamiliar with his work, do yourself a favour & get Thanksgiving, Anon & Baptist Hospital.

If like me you are the kind of listener who seeks out pensive, well thought out, indeed poetic song lyrics combined with structured melodies fused together on an acoustic guitar, then Boo Hewerdine's Toy Box Album's are most definitely for you. This one is the second in the series and continues to delight as much as the first one succeeded in doing so. The songs are well crafted without exception but Hewerdine's voice sets a perfect tone in his vocal delivery. White Lilies opens up the short album of songs and enchants the listener right from the first few notes and lines of the song and draws you into a collection that defies the short playing time with it's mesmerising qualities, much as the first set did with songs like Ellis Island Blues, Dragonflies and Bible Pages. But here, Harvest Gypsies and the more pacy, blues style Stone In Your Shoes add to the range of great material on this mini album. A true Toy Box of Delights and music I can only recommend highly to any potential listener.
