One of England's great songwriters is back with the second and final part in this exceptional acoustic mini album series. Six brand new recordings that showcase his folkier side, this Limited Edition (limited to 3,000 copies in deluxe digi pack) features his original version of "Harvest Gypsies" made famous in 2006 by Kris Drever. Recorded in Scotland in July 2008 the album also features long time collaborator Eddi Reader on guest vocals This release is Boo's personal favourite from his entire catalogue to date, an artist at the peak of his powers delivering simple beautiful songs.

These exclusive recordings are not available anywhere else and are sure to be lapped up by his dedicated fanbase. Recent Radio plays have included Radio 2's Bob Harris and even Aled Jones ( BBC Radio 2) where Boo was the featured artist of the week (Aug 2008). Boo tours constantly and is playing with Heidi Talbot, Eddi Reader and Drever, McCusker, Woomble and solo this Autumn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!! 4 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
My wife and I recently became big fans of Eddi Reader and, through her, Boo Hewerdine. We saw him at at local folk club in late 2008, one of the best gigs we've ever seen. We chatted to him afterwards and learned where the glorious artwork came from; I think I'm right in saying he put his surname into Ebay's search engine and it came up with these lovely examples of art, which had not known anything about. He then made Toybox 1 and 2 so he could make use of the art! As for the music, it's Boo at his best, albeit in a lovely Low-Fi way. Clearly the work of a genius, although I wish he'd polish up the production a bit. What you see is what you get with Boo though, and I hope he never changes that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wake up to Boo 4 Jan 2013
Format:Audio CD
There are a few excellent acoustic and folk musicians who are equally adept at supporting others and recording as a singer-songwriter in their own right. Richard Thompson is the best and most famous of this select bunch though Boo Hewerdine is another highly underrated member of it. As well as performing and writing songs for or with the likes of Eddi Reader, Chris Difford and Edwina Hayes, Boo is also a fine singer- songwriter as Toy Box No. 2 testifies.

TBN2 is a mini-album of just six songs which is equally minimal in terms of musical arrangements. Apart from accordion and the odd basic percussion, vocal or guitar overdub, it is the work of just one man and his acoustic guitar.

And what work it is too! Among the highlights of Toy Box No. 2 for me are the strident strumming of Harvest Gypsies and slightly jazzy ballad White Lilies. These are probably the best songs in the collection with strong melodies and poignant words though the highpoint in terms of muisicianship is Stone In My Shoe which sounds like a slightly more blues-y Nick Drake.

Sometimes less is more with these seemingly quite simple songs and arrangements revealing more clever little tricks with increasing plays. Toy Box No. 2 is an excellent stripped-back album by a big man with a plaintive voice. An underrated member of the supporter-songwriter bunch indeed - maybe it's time you too woke up to Boo.

Although i have been away from this artists music for a while i did see Boo Hewerdine recently at the local Folk Club and very much reminded myself of what i had missed. We had such a good night that i straight away purchased this CD, and it has been in theplayer constantly since. Not a new release and i have heard the music before but it is very enjoyable.
