The Orb featuring David Gilmour - The Making of Metallic Spheres

Biography

The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. The group popularized the genre as well, by appearing on the British chart show Top of the Pops and hitting number one in the U.K. with the 1992 album U.F.Orb. 4.0 out of 5 stars Bouncy and ambient., 27 Aug 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Toxygene (Audio CD)
Toxygne is sort of a very small best of The Orb single. It includes the bouncy album version of "Toxygene" (and an o.k. dysfunctional sounding live version of "Toxygene"). The album version of "Asylum",which I like because of a certain outlandish sci-fi moodiness, is accomponied by the less worthwhile, minimalistic Blood Sugar mix of "Asylum". Of this 5-track single the best track in my opinion is the spacey "Little Fluffy Clouds-Pal Joey Mix", which is a simple yet wonderful mix of The Orb's opus "Little Fluffy Clouds". Orb fans that don't already have this version of "Little Fluffy Clouds" should take advantage of the track's re-release and get it.

This single is worth having for its "Rose Tinted" track . . . pure orbvious sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Orb Track, 13 May 2006
By David Booth - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Toxygene [CD 2] (Audio CD)
Toxygene is a great sample from one the Orb's most under-rated albums, Orblivion. It is a great, quirky dub piece that pretty much defined the Orb's sound around 1997. The CD single was broken into two parts, sold separately. Both are great--although it makes no sense to me why a single had to be sold in two CD's. All the mixes are great. The stand-outs are the EXCELLENT Filia Brazilia version, which stays close to the original Orb version, and Kris Need's Up for a Fortnight which is a fantastic dance mix.

The cds are also worth the purchase price for the remix of Delta MKII and a really nice ambient piece called Rose Tinted, which is sort of a quiet mix of Toxygene and Asylum.
