Book Description

Everything you believe about fat is wrong.

Polyunsaturated oil – everyone knows it's good for you, right? Wrong! And we all know artery-clogging, cholesterol-forming saturated fat is bad for you, don't we? Wrong again! In his previous book Big Fat Lies, David Gillespie showed that these 'truths' are in fact myths, based on poor research and bad evidence.

'Vegetable oil', which isn't made from vegetables at all, but manufactured from seeds, has systematically replaced saturated fats in our diets over the past one hundred years, but our rates of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer are higher than ever.

In Toxic Oil, David reviews the latest evidence on why vegetable oil will kill you. He shows us how to avoid it and leads us through the supermarket, explaining how to read food labels and which products to buy. In the recipe section, you'll discover how to make versions of delicious meals and snacks that are difficult to buy without seed oil. No need to give up hot chips!

With this practical guide in hand, you'll be able to make healthy food choices based on evidence rather than what the processed food industry wants tou to believe. So have a good breakfast – preferably bacon and eggs – strap yourself in, and be prepared to have everything you thought you knew about fat turned upside down.

More About the Author

David Gillespie is a recovering corporate lawyer, former co-founder of a successful software company and investor in several software startups.

He is also the father of six young children (including one set of twins). With such a lot of extra time on his hands, and 40 extra kilos on his waistline, he set out to investigate why he, like so many in his generation, was fat.

He deciphered the latest medical findings on diet and weight gain and what he found was chilling. Being fat was the least of his problems. He needed to stop poisoning himself.

His first book, Sweet Poison, published in 2008 is widely credited with starting the current Australian wave of anti-sugar sentiment. His most recent book, Toxic Oil, takes the arguments in Sweet Poison and extends them to the widespread use of seed oils in the modern diet.

In his next book, Free Schools, David applies his investigative skills to solving one of the other great problems every parent knows well - how to choose the best school for their kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Know we know for sure 31 July 2014

Here we go again. This makes so much sense as do his books on sugar. It explains how my Dad stayed so healthy through his long life, he avoided all those 'mucked up foods' but baffled the Doctors. So much for all the 'modern thinking' about diet and health. Go back to basics and enjoy proper food.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting! 8 May 2013

A really interesting read. I had no idea the lengthily processes that go into producing refined seed oils (the vegetable oils we consume in vast quantities, often unknowingly). It's scary what crap we willingly put into our bodies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye Opener 7 May 2013

Anybody concerned about their health should read this book. It is a bit long winded and I had to look up some of the scientific terms but you will never view cooking oil in the same way again. In fact you may not cook with oil ever again. definitely worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real eye opener 6 Dec. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The information in this book was all new to me and has made me change my eating habits. As usual David Gillespie has done some great research into the subject and the results are quite shocking. Since reading this I have read some other books on how dangerous it is to consume large amounts of omega 6. I don't think there is any doubt about the facts I just wonder how long it will take before the truth becomes widely known. Soon I hope for the sake of all our good health.

Having read 'Sweet Poison' by the same author, I felt compelled to read this. It is written in an easy to understand way. It does make you think a lot harder about what you eat. Like everyone else I'd heard that trans fats like margarine and certain oils were really bad for you, but didn't really know why. Now I do. What I didn't know was how many of them are in our food. Who knew how bad packaged food really is? No wonder there's so much cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart disease. This book, alone with 'Sweet Poison' explains it all. Makes you quite angry as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars BRANDED FOOD 8 Sept. 2014

Excellent book - informative - a good follow-on from David Gillespie's earlier books. But could do with a British version, listing the breads, cereals, crisps available in Britain.
