Product Description

Product Description

Every year we each absorb an estimated 2 kilograms of chemicals through beauty and cosmetic products. Chemicals found in lipsticks, skin lotions and hair dyes have been linked with tumours, cell mutation, allergies, reproductive complications, endocrine disruption and cancer. Isn't it time we all paid more attention to exactly what goes into the eye shadows, body washes and deodorants we love to use? This compelling and timely book tells you the key chemicals you should avoid, reveals just how natural 'organic' beauty products really are, and features a directory highlighting the health issues surrounding a wide range of products, from hair gel to sunscreens.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll be reading the label a bit more from now on., 30 Jan 2009

It's a bit depressing to find that the big companies out there with the big profits are squeezing everything, including the ingredients they use to get a bit more dosh for their shareholders.

This book cuts through the marketing banter and lays it straight and while a bit more on the reasons why big business short-changes it's customers would have been welcomed, it's still an essential compendium of what to avoid and why.

Petrol rinse anyone?

5.0 out of 5 stars Toxic Beauty, 18 Feb 2009
By Emma De Sybel (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

Toxic Beauty is an absolutely fantastic book, which I bought after reading a review in one of the Sunday papers!

The author brilliantly disseminates a wealth of information in a clear and concise toxicology report!
It is a compelling yet worrying read, however one will think twice about buying that beautifully packaged bottle of bubble bath!

All I can say, is this book will be bought for every girlfriend of mine's birthday with a note coining the expression "Health is Wealth"!!

A huge thank you to Dawn Mellowship for publishing this book and alerting women to the hazardous toxic cocktails that adorn our bathroom shelves and sit in our prized make up bags!!

Very interesting and informative piece of research by Dawn Mellowship which represents a wake up call for all of us that think we are safe just because a product is a "super brand". A must have!
