I think this is Townes third album and the one where he really finds his voice. He was getting there on its predecessor Our Mother The Mountain and the realisation that his music is mostly best served by just leaving it unadorned. Townes sad paintive voice and expert acoustic finger picking is all you need. This album is pretty much that and has some of his greatest songs in Colorado Girl and Quicksilver Dreams of Maria. He also revisits Waiting Around To Die and strips away the gaudy arrangements of his debut album to record the definitive version of possibly his finest song. Delta Momma Blues and Flying Shoes are great (well all his Poppy label releases are actually) but this is the one that captures his greatness the best. Nice to see a proper re-issue too from Domino with a slipcase and decent sound after many shoddy versions of his mighty back catalogue.

This came recommended to me by a friend, and it's never been far from my CD player since. Led me to look into other records of his - what a talent he was.

This is an easy sell to anybody who likes an edgy blend of folk, blues and country. If that's you, do yourself a favour.

Just an absolutely superb album . Townes was a masterful songwriter with a distinctive voice , he rarely put a foot wrong from his 2nd album onwards (his debut is flawed but only slightly). This is the definitive album for me though, not a bad song on here and as others have mentioned, the stripped down delivery suits the material to a tee. A high watermark in Americana/folk/country (!) music, just take some time with this one and you'll learn to love it. Next level.

A very good album, indeed. This is about real life, a very quiet album with fantastic lyrics. And on this one you find the classic "Waitin`around to die" which is a great song about the hard reality of life for some. My personal favourite on the album is perhaps the comforting "Don`t you take it too bad" a song that can lift you up when you`re down.

Townes sang about the truth, he sang about life, HIS life. He was a true artist, and it`s not to many you really can say that about.
