Composer Christopher Beck's soundtrack for Tower Heist may not features many distinct musical themes, but mostly blending electronic instruments and drums with a traditional orchestra, it's a pretty effective and enjoyable listen for this modern caper film.

The movie's main theme is built around a short and very basic musical motif, similar to a guitar riff, which is featured in a number of the tracks. Beck uses different tempos and instrumentation, and augments the sound with drums and percussion, and alternate bits and passages, finding creative ways to keep things from getting too repetitive.

The movie is set in New York City, and while Beck's music sounds quite modern, some tracks seems to be going for kind of a cool 70's crime vibe, reminiscent of the style of composers like Lalo Schifrin and Roy Budd, which puts Beck in very good company. "Shawstafari" is an example of a traditional orchestral piece, as the composer does a nice job of featuring a variety of sounds, and musical textures, but his most fun compositions are probably up tempo numbers that blend electronic instrumentation with the orchestra, such as "Gold Rush", "Grand Theft Auto", "Macy's Day", and "We Go On Snoopy". Minus the orchestra, "End Credits", features a rocking and raw version of the main theme.

The music in Tower Heist works well within the context of the film, and can also be appreciated as a standalone listen, something that is not true for many soundtracks. Christopher Guest is an accomplished composer, who knows what he is doing. Check out the sample clips on the MP3 page for the album. If you like the main title theme, the odds are that you will enjoy most of this soundtrack which has 22 tracks, and runs about 40 minutes

I absolutely love the work Beck did with the music, which adds so much to an already amazing movie! I purchased the soundtrack the day it was released, and I listen to it a lot for its rhythm and inspiring tones- Tower Heist rocks!
