This is the tea towel holder used throughout the UK for decades. Poke a corner of a towel into the X with your finger and it stays there. Pull on it and it lets go. Simple. However, we initially got a clear plastic version, which looked better with the new paint job but was just horrible to use and dropped the towels all the time. I considered the steel slot type, but the easy quick release is gone if you have to lift up to avoid ripping the fabric. This is the one that works, and I hunted it down from the USA where they don't have them (dishwashers in every home). I even use it in the bathrooms for small hand towels. There is a screw hole in the middle for more secure attachment, but the wide foam tape base has held up very well so far, so I haven't bothered with the screw.
