Book Description

Journey to the sun washed resort of Cancun and follow a young American couple, Jack and Josephine Phillips, on an adventure into the jungles of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Adventure turns to terror when Josephine disappears and Jack finds himself on the run from mysterious assassins, the Mexican Federales, and possibly even his own government. The Phillips have unwittingly become entangled in the Mexican underworld, a complicated web that stretches from the Carribean coast line of Quintana Roo to the upper reaches of the United States Government. In a land where the line between the law and the outlaw is blurred, can Jack survive long enough to solve the mystery of his wife's disappearance? A Tourist in the Yucatan is a story that will keep you turning pages well into the night. Mexico's brilliant beaches, historic colonial cities, and ancient Mayan ruins hidden deep in the jungle, provide the back drop for this fast paced adventure/thriller.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story but badly written 26 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book by following a recomendation on a review on an aother thriller. The reviewer had written "a good book but not as good as "A Tourist in theYucatan" and I fell for it. I read the book while on holiday, so it passed a few hours while sitting in the sun. However, the characters were unconvincing, the plot thin and un believeable and it felt like a book written for a school essay. It wasn't expensive in terms of cost, but I will never get those few hours back. Don't waste your time on this poor effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting thriller! 21 July 2000
I love good thrillers and mysteries, but it seems most leave me wanting. 'Tourist' though is something different. I was slow to warm to it, the first few chapters led me to belive it was going to be the same old plot line. I was wrong though! The story got better with every turn of the page. The Mayan cities in the jungle makes for a great setting!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have been there you will love this book! 28 July 2000
I thought this was a well thought out, and intelligent mystery/thriller with a great setting. I maybe biased as I have traveled to Mexico many times over the years and the author knows what he is talking about--as far as the settings that is. It does have a high degree of violence, but not too gratuitous. It would be a good read to have while visiting the Yucatan.
