Product Description

Product Description
Between Uberwald and Whale Bay, the Octarine Grass Country and the Widdershins Ocean lies the most exciting and dangerous terrain in all Discworld. This is a map of Lancre, where Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick live.

From the Back Cover
A TOURIST GUIDE TO LANCRE

Not only an artistic and breathtaking view of Lancre but also an interesting and informative guide to one of the Discworld's more, er, picturesque kingdoms.

Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick live there. Lancre could hardly be somewhere ordinary, could it?

Magic glues the Discworld together and a lot of it ends up in Lancre, principal Kingdom of the Ramtop Mountains. Between Uberwald and Whale Bay, the Octarine Grass Country and the Widdershins Ocean lies the most exciting and dangerous terrain in all Discworld. The Ramtops supply Discworld with most of its witches and wizards. The leaves on the trees in the Ramtops move even when there is no breeze. Rocks go for a stroll in the evening. Even the land, at times, seems alive.

The mapp may only be two-dimensional, but watch it very carefully and you might see it jostle about a bit.

TERRY PRATCHETT is Britain's most successful author of comic fantasy, probably the hardest-working writer in the business and a generally all-round good chap.

STEPHEN BRIGGS is none of these, but knows even more about the Discworld than Mr Pratchett which is, when you think about it, very odd.

3.0 out of 5 stars Starting to wear a bit thin, 23 Jan 2003
By Matt Westwood (Reading, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
The problem with these spin-off experiments is that they are never as good as the real thing. After the surprisingly successful Streets of Ankh-Morpork and Discworld Mapp, this one just doesn't seem to have quite the same excitement.

Lancre does not have quite the complexity of A-M for a start, and there's little about the books that makes you wish for a bit of geography to help you along (as opposed to the fascinating intellectual exercise involved in following Carrot, Cuddy etc. through the city streets) - so the map itself ends up as a wall poster. The book that comes with it is okay I suppose, but it's a bit of a one-joke comic.

So in conclusion, pretty but unessential.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 25 Jan 2002
Perhaps Lancre was not the best place to attempt to map; the result is certainly disappointing, especially when compared to the other two Discworld Mapps. The main problem is that as Lancre consists almost entirely of mountains, there is nothing to put on the map. Of course, the artwork is excellent, but we expect no less from Paul Kidby. The accompanying text or 'Tourists' Guide' is highly amusing, particularly references to the nature of ramblers, but consists of only 22 pages.

However, if you are a Discworld fan, you will have to buy this book, so why are you reading this review?

5.0 out of 5 stars A natural addition to the Lancre history books, 22 Oct 1998
By A Customer
With a glorious map of Lancre including the now famous Rock and Hard Place, and the Place Where the Sun Does Not Shine, this guide gives you a unique insight not only into the Disc's Right to Roam concepts, but also lets you see right into the kingdom through the eyes of Gytha Ogg. Fabulous!
