Useful for Planning Ahead..., 21 April 2009

"Touring Map Scotland" by Collins, is a large scale (1:316,000 or five miles to the inch) map showing the road network, a sense of physical geography, and the location of most tourist attractions on a single map. As such, it is a very useful resource for planning an automobile trip around Scotland. The graphics are easy to read and the map itself is nicely presented.
That said, this map should not be the traveler's only resource for planning and navigating around the cities and the Highlands of Scotland. many of the secondary roads are either not included or are hard to discern. The presentation of terrain lacks detail. The symbols that mark items of tourist interest are small and require frequent reference to the symbol key to decypher. The methodology for picking the items to be posted to the map may be a little inconsistent as well.
The visiter to Scotland will find the Collins Touring Map Scotland to be a useful planning resource, but is advised to use a more detailed map for driving, and to consult one of many very adequate guidebooks for Scotland for more details on the many fascinating attractions.

Scotland Touring Map, 10 Aug 2009

The scale on this map makes it easy to see the roads. The symbols for the sites are a little small but if you are using another source like Frommers it is easy to find the sites. The scale is 1 inch equals 5 miles so it is good for plotting out a trip but the map is so big and unwieldy it would be very difficult to use in a car. Still I recommend the map if you are planning a trip to Scotland.

Great detailed map, but large when opened, 11 Jun 2009

This map is great if you are trying to work out a self-drive tour of Scotland. The map is very detailed, and has attractions marked in red so it is easy to create an itinerary. However, like a previous reviewer mentioned, the map is a bit large and cumbersome to be used to help you while you are on the road. It's absolutely great for pre-planning though.
