Joe Bonamassa talks about his "Black Rock" album

Biography

A child prodigy, Bonamassa was finessing Stevie Ray Vaughan licks when he was seven and by the time he was ten, had caught B.B. King’s ear. After first hearing him play, King said, “This kid's potential is unbelievable. He hasn't even begun to scratch the surface. He's one of a kind.” By age 12, Bonamassa was opening shows for the blues icon and went on to tour ... Read more in Amazon's Joe Bonamassa Store

Somehow the magic of the dvd versions of these great concerts has been lost by the ay the music has been edited. Each song has had the crowd applause dubbed down and there is no continuity between songs,so all four albums like like a compilation rather than a concert which is a shame. The same was done with the latest Bonamassa Hart live cd.For me it just spoils the atmosphere of a concert.

Fantastic concert, starting with his acoustic band and finishing with a full on electric set. A great mix of some of Joe's best songs from old to new. An absolute must for any fan of Joe or anyone new to his music who wants a good mix to listen to before buying everything else he's ever done!

First up the positives - Joe's playing is superb as ever and the CD has a good mix of his material on it. There's some great music here and a good range of songs.

Now for the negative. The album doesn't flow the way a live CD should. It isn't put together like a live concert, the fading distracts from the flow of the music. It doesn't have the feel that a concert recording needs.

Not too happy with that side of it, but some great playing all the same.

Want to try something off the wall? Check out Sherlock Holmes and the Flying Zombie Death Monkeys. A b movie in a book, very funny.

Not a bad recording and the playing is exceptional as allways, but why fade between tracks, it was supposed to be live!! When I buy a live album I like to hear some of the "banter" and the crowd and get a feel of the event(s) (Free Live, Yessongs, On you Feet...etc), I think this has suffered from trying to do too many albums, If they wanted to have an album for each gig is should have been a "warts and all" effort. I feel a bit more time in the production to meld a live album together properly taking the best take from each gig and creating a quality album, with a bit of atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, love JB's music/playing - just feel this is milking us fans a bit

All 4 albums are good tho song repetition occasionally gets on my nerves. Ironic as my reviews are the same as well.

One of my first purchases of Joe's live work was his previous performance at the Albert Hall. Having attended the 2013 concert this was a must for me. The individual songs are as good as I remember them. I do though agree with another reviewer that the missing sound of the audience does make the album slightly sterile hence the four rather than five stars.
