I was first attracted to this book because it was different from the usual farm or zoo type child's books. The images are really very colourful and vibrant: leopards on the cover, pg. 1-2 parrots/toucan/cockatoo, pg. 3-4 monkeys, pg.5-6 snakes/frogs, pg. 7-8 bush babies/bats/frogs, pg. 9-10 mother tiger/cubs. Being touchy-feely, the book has fabric inserts, which range from leathery to shiny to fluffy. Although my first impression was that the materials could have been more varied, and the flower inserts, in particular, could have been better designed with some flower prints on them rather than just blank swatches of shiny fabric, the book has definitely grown on me and my son also loves it. The text, however, doesn't flow and it is not a book that is worthwhile actually reading but rather looking at and admiring the pictures.
