Synopsis
Deep midwinter in Connecticut. Widowed fortune-teller Sissy Sawyer is trying to decide whether to join her son in Florida for a winter vacation. But then her cards warn her that something terrible is going to happen, and she decides to stay. Meanwhile Fidelio Valdes, an eccentric and disaffected young Puerto Rican from New York City, and known to his family as "Feely"; along with Robert Touche, a drunk and aggressive businessman who has lost his job and his wife, known to his business associates as "Touchy", join together to begin a spree of random shootings. Hidden in the specially-customized trunk of Touchy's car, they kill innocent and unsuspecting people with a high-powered sniper rifle. The Connecticut Police are baffled by the killings until Sissy contacts them to say that her cards are predicting the murders and giving her clues to the identity of the killers. And only Sissy's psychic intuition can lead the police to their hiding-place, and a final explosive showdown.

I thoroughly enjoyed Touchy and Feely, although it definitely had a 'first book' feeling about it. The majority of the book was set out defining the characters and their various characteristics (if you'll pardon the pun), its not a 'horror' book along the lines of Walkers, Rook etc but is still a superb read and I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Graham Masterton draws you into his worlds effortlessly, and the descriptive prose is up to his usual excellent standards, the shocks, the shivers and even the 'now why did you do that?' feelings are all there.
For a book that is at least as long, if not longer, than some of his recent works, this books reads very quickly.
I couldn't put it down. The only reason I haven't given it a 5 star rating is that you can't improve on perfection, so I've left a sliver of room for improvement.

I had wanted to read this one for a while and I got to read it recently whilst on holiday. It lasted about a day before I had finished it. Its a Sissy Sawyer mystery so it is not an out and out horror novel. Though the content of it is quite horrific in parts.
Sissy Sawyer is a grandmother who reads tarot cards. She is like my nan all self willed and knows what she wants out of life. Then the murders begin she see it in the cards. She can predict the future but will the police believe her?
Add to the story you get a different perspective of one man who life has not treated well. You get a disenfranchised young pup who falls in with the older man. They make way together and find a third.
It really is a great book and just like a lot of Graham's later work thoughtful. In this work his characters live and breathe. He characters follow the logic of the book. All this makes for an enjoyable and at times breath taking read. I loved this and am going to read the painted man next. Then roll on June 2012 for Red Hotel. Now I can all my Sissy Sawyer fixes in the one year!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book as I am a great fan of masterton's work, sadly I was very dissappointed, it wasn't a 'horror' book (which is fine) but so far all of his books have 'gripped' me from the first page, this one didn't I read it all the way to the last page hoping that there would be a great twist in it to save the book but there wasn't, I'm reading another book of his and I'm hoping that this new style of the book is just a one off.
