Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I really enjoyed playing through this new 'Turok'. It looks good, sounds good and plays well - however it isn't inspired enough to trouble the likes of 'Halo 3' or 'Bioshock' (though overall I preferred 'Turok' to 'Halo 3'). Basically too much of it is familiar, the story and the setting plus the weapons could be from any number of games.
These elements are done well and the dinosaurs add in a lot of fun but not enough to flesh out the basic game. So its good but not amazing - having said this I found it more consistent than 'Halo 3', theres no awful end levels to ruin the experience so while 'Turok' doesn't quite reach the heights that 'Halo 3' did it doesn't get as tedious either (yeah big shock I know but every 'Halo' stinks towards the end).
This is a good relaunch that plays it a little too safe in trying to re-establish the series, hopefully if it sells well a sequel will take this games good qualities and push them further. For now this is a solid title, I thoroughly enjoyed it and its challenging enough on Hard to get your moneys worth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Turok - Review 14 Feb 2008
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I am a dedicated FPS fan, already have COD4, Orange Box, Halo 3, Gears, Bioshock etc.. and to be honest I wasn't expecting much from Turok (altho I was a big fan of it on N64) so I didn't pay full price for it, I traded in a few older games... got home and started the game my first impressions weren't all that great, but as I have played through the game I have been pleasantly surprised. First of all - the graphics, I can't understand anyone who says they are sub standard, the graphics are excellent, possibly the best jungle environments seen in a game yet, yes the character models are very gears like, but that so far is my only negative. Wait till you see the t-rex stomping through the jungle and ripping enemy soldiers apart... fantastic. Yes there are probably only 3 enemy soldier models - but that doesn't detract from the game (look at the combine in Halflife 2 - they all look the same!).... besides the developers obviously made the decision to concentrate on the dinosaur models which they got spot on...Next up - Gameplay... as I am still playing through the game I can only comment on what I have seen so far, and so far it's been great. Enemy AI is good enough, no major glitches yet, weapons feel powerful and there seems to be a good selection, dual wielding works well. Dinosaurs AI is great, getting stalked by raptors through long grass is nail biting stuff. The bow and the knife just polish things off, and is very satisfying pinning an enemy soldier to a wall with an arrow from afar. Replay value to be found here, as in most situations you can just go in all guns blazing and unload your ammo on the enemy or you can go stealth hunting and take them out with the bow and knife, both of which work well, but will give you two different playing experiences. Can't comment on multi-player as I don't have Live. But if your an FPS fan, who's already played through COD4, Gears, Halo etc and are looking for something a little different then I can strongly recommend this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not a classic. 25 Jan 2009

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game along with my new Xbox as well as COD 4, Gears 1 + 2 and far cry 2, so to be fair it was up against some stiff competition from the very beginning. I am a big fan of Turok, right back to the original on the PC, so was quite excited to get this game as well. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed with this game when I first played it.
The developers have done a nice job of revamping the game and bringing it away from the old ways and trying out some new styles and have done an excellent job with the graphics and scenery in the game. The back rounds are beautiful and the long grass and vegetation is somewhat interactive. Also there are some beautiful views from high cliffs, which you can stare out over and enjoy. But who the hell buys a game for that I hear you say!
The game play is interesting, with a neat storyline which is captivating. A nice addition of flashbacks makes the story extra special. There are however a few faults. The aiming system is extremely difficult. The joypad is way to sensitive, and aiming the reticule accurately on your enemies is quite difficult. I found myself dual wielding weapons and taking shots in a general direction, hoping for the best. This is not the ideal method to play the game, as it drains your ammo quickly. I felt that this game would benefit from a COD aim assist to help you close in on your enemies.
Saying that the enemies have reasonable AI and there seem to be plenty of human enemies, but I found there were not enough dinos for my liking. The game allows you to use the dinos against your enemies, e.g. by shooting the dinos, which in turn makes them attack the human enemies. A neat trick, which in turn saves you some time, effort and ammo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Turok Review 1 Jun 2008
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First of all this is a review on turok for the xbox 360 and i will split up the game into sections.

Gameplay- When you first play the game it takes getting used to, trying to shoot an enemy can be a pain due to the sensitive aiming (its adjustable by the way!) could just save it during the game. Unfortunately the checkpoints are scattered through the levels in stupid places, e.g. you might be fighting for 15 minutes then suddenly die and get angry, yes you will get angry... don't be surprised.

Graphics- The first thing i noticed was the character models looked very similiar to gears of war and at some points the faces looked cartoony. But actually if you look at the lush forests and the massive rexes stompin' abut the place the visuals are acctually very good, to say the least. They are not stunning and sometimes can be rather dark so many players will soon be looking around the options to look for a brightness setting, good news there is one!

AI- After reading many reviews saying that the AI is stupid and worthless I'm going to have to agree on some points and disagree on others. They can be funny and stupid sometimes, a fellow enemy could be just walking in front of you without spotting you or suddenly when you think you're hidden they spot you out of nowhere. But i must say i am quite impressed with some of it, if you just sit and watch the raptors tearing marines to bits then a guaranteed smile will adjust itself onto your face. Whether its the T-rex chasing and tearing apart raptors or the stalking done by some of the dinosaurs, the AI is superb in most senses.

Best Bits- I must say there are bits in this game that will either terrify the hell out of you or make you gasp.
