5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ebook reader 3 Oct 2010
Initially i was not confident of buying this tablet pc because of its review but given its low price one can go for once as it does not cost you over 500 bucks. Well ...Finally I purchased this tablet pc and it has been more than a week and I am loving it so far. With a little tweak it has become a very good device from an ordinary device (you need to google a bit). This is not the device for people who do not want to spend little time with it, well what do you expect from a device so cheap when there is not a lot of options available in the market for less price at this point of time....I can read ebooks, check my emails, chat to my friends, and loads of other things.....it is very good in its own limitation. The only drawback is its low processor and ram but it does not take anything away at this price.
Finally it was a risk which I took and it has paid off very well so far.....Cheers

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely good value for money 12 Sep 2010
I've been considering getting an ereader for a while and also looking at something that will take audiobooks and music. When I saw the Eken it looked like good value for money since it covered all my requirements. I read the two long and helpful reviews and then decided to take the plunge. I'm not a technical person so it needed to be easy to use and have user friendly software. I liked it as soon as I started using it, I downloaded Aldiko and Meridien to make it simpler for myself and then started to play. It's fun using it as an ereader and having one device which does music and books is great for travelling. My partner is visually impaired and has been using a Sony ereader with increasing difficulty but found the option to have white text on black and variable font very easy to use so we've bought a second one!

I think it is a great little device for the money, I'm impressed by android apps and you don't need to be technical to use it. I love it and would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eken M001 sold by JSM 9 Nov 2010
Verified Purchase
After a bit of research I bought the Eken M001 from JSM. What I was looking for was a low cost touch sensitive web browser and ebook reader with the option of adding apps. Here is my first impressions.

Eken M001 Android 1.6 OS 1.9 White. 7" inch resistive touch screen, Case is white plastic with 2 buttons, 1 acts as power on and off the other as a volume control, back button and menu. The unit comes with 2 gb onboard and the options for using SD Cards to add to the memory.

Once you tweak the screen size and reset the touch interface the Eken M001 does what you want quickly and easily, on full use you have approximate 3 hours of charge depending on the function. The fact that the OS provided by JSM links faultlessly with the Android market is a huge positive.

Overall for the money this is an excellent product by a very helpful and supportive seller. It is not an Ipad and if you have used an iPad you will find the Eken M001 a bit frustrating but if you don't own an iPad this is excellent value for money.

Would I buy another? Definitly. Though I might look to a slightly bigger screen version to make the web page browsing a little more fun.

Definitly recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars Its fun but a little awkward to navigate 2 Jun 2010
By stephen Luff TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE

Here's a short review on the tablet. I've had it two days now. First off it comes in reasonable packaging.

Items include:-

- headphones,
- telescopic stylus
- a multi-plug for charging
- a connector to the computer
- a small manual
- there is no sd card supplied
- no flash support
- no protective cover

Firstly touch and Feel.
-----------------------

Its awkward. Its resistive touchscreen which means it can be used with a stylus, fingernail or fingertip. Resistive doesn't have to mean awkward. Here's an example: you open up a function like play music, you get a scrolling list, when trying to scroll down the touchscreen selects an unwanted item and loads it. Its so tricky to get this sensitivity right. It can take a few days. Even then it still doesn't always work.

It doesn't play flash. So I tried downloading skyfire. For some reason skyfire web links refuse to take you to a non Android market place to download. I've been looking to try download it for a couple of hours. Without the connection to Android Market its really difficult to get your favorite widgets and apps. Seesmic is a fantastic little twitter for Android. I can't get it to download.

I tried finding my downloads on my Android phone which does have access to Android Market. I can't find them anywhere. I downloaded a more comprehensive file explorer and still no luck.

So the point to pick up here is downloading apps is limited to what you can find. But it does work as I've managed to load a few apps.
There's quite a few free games to download as well.

Also get the sd card in the right way(upsidedown). It goes in the wrong way quite deeply and then gets itself stuck.

3.0 out of 5 stars as a starter 5 Aug 2010
By claire
it does the job I bought it for, as an e reader. it will do other stuff, but anyone buying this is well advised to read all the threads on the slatedroid forum (and grapple with the tech speak!)

the apps supplied aren't great, but easily replaced with better

if you don't want to pay for an IPad and are happy with the android OS, well worth a look for little money.

and the vendor is very helpful if there's a problem!

edited to add -have dowloaded the kindle for android app; it is good as an e-reader. also freebies from aldiko. and easier than wrestling with laptop for checking something out whilst watching tv - links to my wifi no problem. was even able to get into android market via my google account to get kindle.

no idea how long it will last but so far so good
