2.0 out of 5 stars Just doesn't quite deliver 7 Jun 2013
By Neil
Colour Name:Silver/Black
I purchased 4 of these phones with a range extender about a year ago replacing a B&O system that had been worn out.

The good news is that the handsets seem well made, have a substantial feel and have survived about 12 months of typical family use pretty much unscathed. Setting up the handsets was easy, the range extender not so. I followed the instructions and it just wouldn't work. I tried calling customer services but could only get a answering machine telling me what hours the service was open (I was calling well with the advertised hours). Fortunately a quick search on the internet found help on a forum which told me a) that Siemens customer service was woeful, and b) the correct way to set up the extender which was simple, but just not how the set up manual explained.

The phones have the appearance of smart phones, and I think this may be their down fall because they just don't have the same level of intuitive interface that you come to expect from a smart phone. For example you cannot just change the first couple of digits on a telephone number (e.g. to remove the 44) you have to backspace and delete the whole number and then retype it - a real pain when down loading a mobile phone address book with lots of overseas numbers - the gigaset doesn't like the '+' signs.

The address book is a problem, my old B&O system let me set up a common address book used by all handsets, unfortunately each gigaset handset has its own and while it is possible to copy numbers from one phone to another this doesnt always happen and you are constantly swapping handsets to find the one with the number you need.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Model is not just about the Looks 1 Dec 2011
By S. Thomas #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Colour Name:Silver/Black
I have been waiting for this to model to become available in the UK ever since the press release and it was on my wish list for practical reasons rather than being 'designer gear':

1. Over 10 years we have worked through three sets of DECT phones of various make and the keypads of all have started to fail after about 2-3 years (usually it is specific numbers on each unit as if programmed into manufacture!). I therefore wanted an alternative.

2. Rather than having spare units strewn around the house and offices we wanted a model that could easily be slipped in the pocket like a mobile phone.

3. For work, we need to enter in a lot of numbers, some of which are only used for a period of time for specific projects. Entering names and numbers into a conventional keypad became such a bother that we ended up just looking up the number. However, this slows things down when busy and also meant we could not greet the caller by name when they rang.

4. I wanted to be able to use the phone in conjunction with a Bluetooth headset (DECT headsets that connect to the base unit require outgoing calls to be transferred across to the headset after dialling).

We already have a Gigaset model for home use and it is the only brand to have lasted - thus I have reasonable confidence in the manufacturer. The SL910 ticks all of the above boxes and I can justify the outlay by needing less handsets lying around (no need to 'chase the handset').

Initial impressions are good. The base unit is discreet and can be tucked away (it doesn't contain any controls apart from a pager button). The handset is metal and relatively heavy but I haven't found it a chore to hold and I use a headset for longer calls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful phone waste of money 28 Mar 2013
Colour Name:Silver/Black|Verified Purchase
This phone was not cheap. It is really difficult to use, and by this I mean to press the screen, each digit is painstakingly slow, and please dont buy it if you do not have extremely good ears, even on the loudest volume, it's quiet. I hate it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not upto my expectations 5 Jan 2013
By shoravi
Colour Name:Silver/Black|Verified Purchase
I bought to replace my old Philips set. Good idea to have home phone with touch screen. But this screen is slow.

Functions poor. Bluetooth and Internet are useless. You cannot transfer the whole address book . You have to do it one at a time. No where near any basic smartphone.

Good features. - brighter time display especially at night. Good look and feel.

I will not recommend this as a special homephone for lack of technical features. Sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gigaset SL910 27 April 2013
By OZWALD
Colour Name:Silver/Black|Verified Purchase
This is a very nice piece of kit and although it is rather expensive its just quality. Even my daughter loves it
because it is a touchscreen device. My other Siemens phones (sl785s) are also compatible with the SL910 base
Just register them with iit - dead easy. Battery doesnt seem to last quite as long as the SL785's but maybe
it will improve once the battery has been fully discharged a couple of times!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor 27 Mar 2014
By N. Hill
Colour Name:Silver/Black|Verified Purchase
I bought this product to replace an older Gigaset system that was zapped by an electrical storm. The appearance of the handset is excellent & it was simple to setup. Most of the older Gigaset phones connected to this newer box, apart from one unit for some unknown reason. It was not easy to connect the older phones & took between minutes & several hours. Copying my contacts from Outlook was fairly straightforward, although I would have liked to choose which contacts to transfer.

The SL910A although it looks good, a smartphone it is not. The UI is slow & clunky, changing screens is awful & the touch sensitivity is very poor. The mix of touch keys & hard keys makes it awkward to use & the touch keys must be pressed slowly & carefully to make them register.

In conclusion it was a bad purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible product. Poor customer service.
The telephone has never fully held a charge and although Siemens denied there was a design flaw, the handset does not feel like it 'sits' properly in its cradle. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars SL910A or SL930A?
