5.0 out of 5 stars Great, simplified read, suitable for children 31 Mar 2012

I have been studying mountains with my Year 5 class (9-10 year olds) and have used the story Touching the Void to create some great debate and persuasive writing. The full text is unsuitable for this age (too much swearing and far too much technical detail) so this book provided a great way of telling the story briefly and simply. The questions at the back were great for comprehension and follow up work. The language used is simple and straight forward. A useful resource to use with my average to lower ability readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are you sure this is the one you want? 12 Feb 2012

This is a great book for Foundation students and Key Stage 3. I mistakenly bought it as the full text to help a Higher level GCSE student. Beware: this text is hugely abridged and simplified. It's still great if that's what you want, but be sure before you buy that you're getting the right one!

Great Literacy text to link with 'Mountains' theme we are covering in class.
Simple vocab - kid-friendly version of the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Mountaineering Book Ever? Probably 28 May 2010
The only thing "wrong" with this book is that you know what happens before you start reading it as it is the survivor who's doing the retelling of the tale.
