Book Description

Discover beautiful South Africa in this sweet, heart-warming Cinderella story about a blogger, a billionaire, and one chance meeting.

When it comes to men, if physiotherapist Caitlin Sutherland didn't have bad luck, she would have no luck at all. To help cope, Caitlin starts blogging in her spare time, about the types of men she meets and the bad dates she goes on.

While on duty during the annual Wines to Whales bicycle race, a gorgeous, sweaty cyclist walks in and sets her hormones dancing. But he is Don Cavallo; one of the four Cavallo brothers — hotel tycoons, famous as much for their business skills as for the number of beauties regularly seen on their arms.

Don Cavallo has his own issues with the other sex. He has yet to find one who is interested in him and not in his money or hotels. But when this sexy physio puts her hands on his back she not only touches his body, but also his heart.

They've both been burned before, but neither of them can stop themselves from playing with fire.

5.0 out of 5 stars A light and easy read. 4 Aug. 2014
I enjoyed the author’s last book, so I was looking forward to reading this one, and it didn’t disappoint.

I love the simplicity of the writing and its edges of humour (‘I don’t trust a man who shaves his legs made me laugh’ especially). The story moves along at pace, and felt to me like a light and easy read.

This is character-led fiction, and I really like the cast: two families (plus a friend) brought together by love. In this book the focus is Caitlinand Don, but other potential love stories are developing in the background, which adds a great layer to the story.

The heroine, Caitlin, is likeably imperfect: she struggles to trust any man since her father left her mother, and has become expert at categorising men by their flaws. She’s deeply passionate; that’s my favourite thing about her: the ease with which she falls in love.

The love interest is Don, and he’s certainly ‘swoon-worthy’ enough to carry the story. I love that his self-assurance and self-awareness: he knows what he wants and goes and gets it. Take the moment he first asks Caitlin out:

‘I’d like to take you out, Caitlin.’
‘As in a date?’ she asked, still stunned.
‘Yes, Caitlin, as in a date.’ He touched her check. ‘There is something here,’ he said and motioned with his hand between them.

I love his directness and, as the story develops, his calm insistence that he does not need to explain himself but should be trusted. Trust is at the heart of this book, and it’s a powerful theme.

The ending is really satisfying for wrapping up the Caitlin and Don story, but it certainly left me wanting to know more about Caitlin’s sisters and Don’s brothers in love, so I do hope there are more books in the pipeline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick easy read, hot romance 1 Nov. 2014
Touched To The Heart is a quick easy read, hot romance. It ticks all the boxes of a good chick lit/ Rom com and if I'm not mistaken has plenty more stories to follow it.

The book is set in South Africa, we meet Caitlin Sutherland a physio who doesn't trust men, especially those who shave their legs and who are cyclists. But when she's bowled over by her emotions to a man she's only just met, she's left dazed and confused.

Don Cavallo is one of four handsome brothers who love cycling as a serious hobby and escape from the high profile lives they lead as hotel tycoons. He meets Caitlin during the Wines to Whales cycle race where she is working as a physio for the cyclists. A man who has yet to find a woman who can hold his attention, Don's attention is grabbed from just one touch of Caitlin's magical hands.

Plenty of hot sexual tension will Caitlin must learn to trust a man? And will Don ever want more than just a fling?

This review is based on a free copy of the book given to me by the author.

I loved the opening line as I've always had an issue with cyclists shaving their legs. So not manly! Elsa changed my opinion on that with her macho hero. There were some lovely turns of phrase with some fun banter between the characters. I loved the author mother - nice touch to bring out the romance of the story. The setting was fantastic, with some lovely local flavour, and a move to the Seychelles mid-story which provided an interesting change of direction. All in all a fantastically readable book with lots of humour and of course, romance. Definitely recommend this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed yet intriguing characters 15 Sept. 2014
By Lindsey Gray - Published on Amazon.com
Hands massaging taught, hard muscles within the first few pages. Yep, that hooked me. Winckler brings to life the beautiful imagery of a cyclist physique and the South African country in this sweet and sexy tale.

When physiotherapist Caitlin works the kinks out of hotel mogel Don, sparks fly. As Caitlin learns more about the dashing eldest Cavallo brother, the deeper she falls. The duo hit more than one road block on their journey, but what kind of fun would it be if it were easy?

Winckler's writing is fun and engaging. I loved that the story brought family and friends into the mix of Caitlin and Don's burgeoning relationship. With Caitlin's trust issues and Don's playboy lifestyle, the two needed people in their lives to fall back on.

I had only a few things that bothered me about this story. One, it was too short. At only 130 pages, I felt there was much more that could have been explored, especially with Caitlin's issues with her father. I also would've liked some explanation about Caitlin's sister, Hannah, and Don's brother, Darryn. Winckler eludes to a rocky past relationship, but never resolves the issue. I've searched, but have not found that this book is part of a series. If that is the case, leaving that relationship cloaked in mystery is quite confusing.

Although I had these issues, I truly enjoyed Caitlin and Don's story. The characters were flawed yet intriguing. I hope that Winckler will continue the story of the Cavallo and Sutherland families.

Thank you to Elsa Winckler and The Masquerade Crew for providing me with a copy of Touched to the Heart in exchange for an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Stars This was a light and entertaining love story that I read in one sitting 22 July 2014

4 Stars

This was a light and entertaining love story that I read in one sitting. Caitlin and Don are two very sceptical characters and keep their hearts guarded for fear f getting hurt. Caitlin harbours abandonment issues stemming from her childhood; and Don thinks every woman is after his money and doesn’t see the real him! There is thing undeniable attraction between the two that has them seeking each other out and come together in the end.
I think what intrigued me the most is that the secondary characters (Cait and Don’s sister and brother) have a history and it looks to be a juicy one. A great set up for a continuation in the series! Cant wait for their story!

You never know when you pick up a writer friend's books whether they're going to work for you, or whether you'll enjoy the skill, but not really be emotionally engaged. Well, with "Touched to the Heart", I felt the emotions.

Elsa Winckler captures the uncertainty and intensity of falling in love.

I enjoyed all the side characters and family dynamics, but it was the core drama -- the risk of sharing your heart -- that kept me reading.

A lovely weekend read -- and just a little bit sexy!
