'The comedy of this sprightly, pacey memoir is not so much in the
sexual frankness . . . but the Ed Wood-like innocence of the author'

I was given this book and told, "it's great, you'll want to read it in one sitting". That much is true. It's the story of a man whose interest in pornography finally compels him to try his hand at directing it. It's filled with pretty vulgar but hilarious incidents, and the author (it's 'anonymous') has a good turn of phrase when dealing with the various people he meets along the way. I reckon there's only two things wrong with this book, and neither of them hamper it more than the smallest amount. The first is that because this is apparently true to life, the author uses real characters but with altered names. The altered names that he chooses are often quite generic (Freddy, Dave and so on) and it can become tricky to remember who's who. The second minor quibble is that this guy got into pornographic directing in no way 'accidentally'. From the first it's painted as a conscious choice. As I say, hardly enough to ruin the book. Did I read it in one session? No, I fell asleep in the middle as it was two in the morning, but I'd still give it a very high 'addiction' rating!

Wickedly hilarious 27 Oct 2009
I read this book about a year ago, and gave it away to Bookcrossing, as I thought it's so funny that other people should enjoy it too. But it's SO funny, I thought I just have to buy it again! It's a pretty lurid account of life in the porn world, which is just hilarious. Funniest of all is the matter-of-fact way the porn stars talk about their work activities. Also, the bit with the guy's bank manger is very funny. An entertaining, escapist bit of fun.

Orange people 23 Mar 2009
By P Kart
Ever since reading this book, whenever I see someone with a fake orange tan, this book pops into my head. Vulgar, very matter-of-fact and creative. I had a great time laughing my way through this fast paced, easy to read book. This is the typical book where if anything can go wrong, it goes wrong. Stars run late, locations do a complete U turn on our wanna-be director. A great set of cast but at times hard to believe it.

The story is about an everyday guy wanting a change of career and since he has such a large stash of porn already, what better idea than direct his own? After a bit of a struggle arranging a bitchy cameraman, cast and a location things go from bad to worst until they climb back up again just to fall down once more. Our director wants to bring some fresh upper market material into the British porn world and this is his story on achieving it.

I highly recommend reading it if you're looking for a good comedy but I wouldn't suggest it if you're actually thinking about getting into the industry yourself. Very vague on most of the inner details of the world but then again, this is for leasure reading than Your Guide to The Porn Industry!
