It's been about a year or so now since the last book in the original trilogy came out, and I did wonder if it would be good to re-read the 'Edge' books to remind myself of who was who and about the baddies/quest etc., but as this world has expanded, the author has provided a glossary of terms and of characters. Boy, has the world grown and it sounds as if these books are going to be better than the first lot. However, there is a foreword from the author, in which she describes these as sensual romances rather than erotic romances, and yes, they are quite a bit different than her earlier Ellora's Cave books, bu good nonetheless.
In this tale, we meet Aiden, a Prime tiger-shifter, and Watchman, who has been tasked with tracking down Olivia, a kindergarten teacher who has been caring for her niece, Jaimie, a young Mallory witch with the potential to be very powerful one day, since her mother was killed a few weeks ago, and since her other aunt was abducted. As in the other books, the Causus are the baddies, and barely has Aiden met with Olivia and Jaimie to try to take them to safety at the Watchment sanctuary, than the battle starts. From there on, it's action all the way.
New baddies are introduced, including one that can't be seen and who in this book could not be killed, but was eventually weakened, and there are some new characters mentioned. Yes, there were several hunky Watchmen too and I get the feeling that the series will eventually be expanded to give each of them their tales - which they certainly merit.
Whilst the tale is fast-paced, there is still time for Aiden and Olivia to have their romance, and there are several scenes of really hot sex, and I liked the way in which he opened up to her about his past and his fears, and how he took the time to reassure her about her looks and about how worthy a person she was. However, what was entirely unreal is that he was six and a half feet tall, built like a horse (in every way, as well as the one that REALLY counts!), as he describes himself and she was about five and a half feet tall, yet hurried sex without it hurting her was never an issue. Oh well, it's a story, not reality and it only added to the tale.
Overall, this was a good addition to the series, but one to take your time reading, as it introduces a lot of new stuff. It was also good to see that the past three lead pairs are all gearing up to their weddings and starting families, which made me feel as if the good guys were confident of winning the war, if they were prepared to start bringing babies into their world.
