Product Description

Fleecy lambs to stroke, a ponys silky tail to brush and a llamas soft fur to touch: all these adorable animals and inviting textures await children in this interactive board book! Kids join a family on their very first visit to the petting zoo, where the young boy and girl get up close to the animals and make lots of furry friends. Readers can experience the same fun and excitement as they stroke the animals over and over again.

Great for babies 10 Dec 2011
By Matt Abney - Published on Amazon.com
My son is 4 months old and he LOVES this book. As soon as I start reading it to him, he starts coo-ing and pumping his legs. The large pictures and melodic words make it interesting for babies.
best touch-and-feel book we own (and we have a ton!) 27 April 2012

This is the best touch-and-feel book I have seen (and our house is like a library!). The illustrations are absolutely adorable -- as all of Caroline Pedler's work seems to be -- and the text is very sweet and lyrical. But what makes this book really special is the variety of items to touch.

- tires on the car have a waffled texture which makes somewhat of an appealing sound when you touch it
- duckies have a softer-than-your-usual touch book felt feel
- the horse's tail actually feels like a horse's tail (and can be braided, combed, etc.)
- the piggies' mud is sticky (much like the "jelly" card in the DK Publishing touch and feel picture cards -- my baby's favorite card!). The book comes with this section having a protective cover b/c if it's anything like the card we have, it will attract lint, dog fur, etc.
- the sheep has the standard sheep feel (but illustrations are so cute!)
- the duck pond has a very inviting pond feel
- the llama is incredibly soft
- the boy's blankie is very soft too and lifts out of the page (like the horse's tail)

I like it that the book shows the little boy and girl in their car seats going to and from the zoo, as being in the car seat is probably an interesting part of many toddler's lives - but I don't see it depicted too often in stories. I think this book would also be engaging to a child who had sensory issues (or vision challenges), as it does have many unique items to touch (including the cover, where the words are written in a velvet writing).
I usually buy books used, but I'm glad I bought this one new because of the sticky page for the pigs. :)
