Cassidy At His Best!! 11 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
"A Touch Of Blue" is another fine album from David Cassidy proving once again that he is absolutely consistent in terms of his ability to produce wonderful music. This latest recording is very radio friendly. The arrangements are superb and David's voice is in fine form. "A Touch Of Blue" deserves to be as big a seller as his last CD "Then And Now" which reached platinum status.

It's hard to select the stand out tracks. Each song on this album has been carefully crafted and delivered by David in his distinctive vocal style. I love the opening track "Spooky". David's own composition "New York City Life" is up there with the best he has ever written. The bluesy/jazzy feel of tracks such as "Since I Fell For You" and "A Song For You" are so in keeping with David's later Broadway/crooner persona. His rendition of the Beatles "Blackbird" is superb. Classic pop makes an appearance with David's excellent renditions of "Walk Away Renee", "Mother And Child Reunion" and "More Than Words". David's concert standard "Hollywood Nights" is another welcome inclusion, although it's live rock edge has been toned down to blend with the overall blues feel of this album. (For the full driving rock version you'll need to buy the DVD "David Cassidy Live In Concert"). Finally, the ballad version of the pop classic "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" is a perfect bow to David's pop past. This alternative version of the hit song was a mid 70s Top 10 return hit for the song's composer, Neil Sedaka - but David was actually the first artist to introduce the song this way on his huge hit 1974 LP "Cassidy Live".

I was a bit disappointed at first to read that Universal were releasing "A Touch Of Blue" with a companion CD of songs from "Then And Now" but in actual fact, the 2 CDs sit very well together. And unless I am mistaken (and I don't believe I am) some of the "Then And Now" recordings have been tweaked here and there, enough to make them sound fresh and well worth having to anyone who is a collector of all things David Cassidy.

Buy this album. If you are curious about what all the fuss about David Cassidy is, this album is an excellent introduction. If, like me, you are already a die-hard fan you will not be disppointed. Congratulations to David Cassidy!

A Touch of Blue has touched my soul. It's superb! I especially love A Song for You and Walk Away Renee. However David sings all the songs on CD 1 with such passion and his voice is a dream. Exactly what I'd expect from him BUT why not more tracks? We didn't need the second CD as a bonus because we already have Then and Now from 2001. I suspect Universal insisted on it. A much better bonus CD would have been another 10 new tracks, or perhaps some of the other songs from his concerts (who cares if they're bluesy or not), CCRider, Hush, Hollywood Nights as he perfoms it live and oh for David to re-record Summer Days!!
Hope this isn't David's last recording. That would be such a shame. He's voice has always been beautiful and now it's even more so.
Buy A Touch of Blue and get David into the charts where he belongs. And Universal if you're reading this...... More like this please...

A wonderful CD! 16 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
There is good news and bad news. Let's get the bad news out of the way. David's new CD is only 37 minutes long. There are only 10 tracks. When most CDs nowadays last for twice as long as this I am irritated that his record label 'Universal' has the cheek to charge full price for the CD. There is included a so called 'bonus' CD with reworkings of old hits from 'Now and Then'. This is an insult to David's fans. We already have the old hits - we got them first time round on vinyl and played them on our record players that had 16, 33, 45 and 78 on (you've got to be of a certain age to understand!). And we bought 'Now and Then" so we don't need this so called bonus CD. Let's be realistic - David Cassidy is not cool in the way Sean Paul or Eminem or Justin Timberlake are with the youth of today. Most people buying his CDs now are people who remember him first time around and are amazed and impressed with how his voice has matured and become a lot better than it was in the Seventies. As a rule I do not like re-makes and re-mixes of old hits - but David's 'Now and Then' is the exception to the rule - his voice really has matured and is, to my mind, he is one of the greatest singers. And so for this reason I can tolerate the bonus CD - but forget that - his new material on 'A Touch of Blue' is fantastic - and this is the good news!! I do not have a favourite track - each one is fab- some are brand new songs and some of covers of old ones, the mixure works well, but at the end of the day the reason why David Cassidy's music will sell is for two reasons - he evokes memories from our youth, when we worshipped him for his music, his voice, his good looks, his 'coolness' and secondly, he has an incredible voice which touches a chord deep inside.
