Tote bags are becoming more and more popular because they are reusable and eco-friendly. This affordable and stylish alternative to the ubiquitous plastic bag is now also a fashion statement. The use of tote bags has spread from the eco-savvy shopper to the style-conscious consumer. With this shift, totes have moved from being a purely utilitarian item to a medium for self-expression. The printed design on the tote bag is effectively a communication message to express a persons personality. The graphics, imagery and messages displayed on tote bags are becoming increasingly sophisticated, subtle and imaginative. This book showcases some of the most striking, inventive and subversive of current examples of the tote. The featured totes come from a wide range of illustrators and graphic designers around the world, with designs including floral prints, typography, illustrations and characters.
About the Author
itesh Patel has several years' experience in illustration and design, and set up his multi-disciplinary studio, DesignBite, in Shoreditch, London, in 2007. His clients include British Airways, Christie's the auctioneers, Duck and Cover clothing, The Economist, French Connection, Galaxy chocolate, The Guardian, Hal & Riney San Francisco, HSBC, Jack Wills, John Lewis, John Murray Publishing, Jury & Co, MTV, Ted Baker, Tesco, TBWA, Tres Generaciones, The Gild and Vodafone. Jitesh launched the Tote Prints blog (toteprints.wordpress.com) in 2009. Patel's work has been featured in numerous magazines, newspapers and books, including the book 300% Cotton by Helen Walters (Laurence King Publishing), IdN Magazine and Computer Arts magazine.

To all those tote bag lovers out there, you will adore this book since it tells you where you can find the cool, cute, retro etc tote bags out there. It has a list of shops with pictures of a selection from each shop, so if you are a tote fan and want more bags to add to your collection. This is the book for you.

Art on the streets,

The campaign against plastic shopping bags seems to have fizzled out perhaps in part due to books like this. One sees an increasing number of canvas bags on shoppers' arms these days. This book gives a chance for plastic bag haters to show their opinions and for others to show their artistry. I have given it four stars.

I bought this book because I really, really LOVE bags. Yes, am slightly obsessed!It offers an insight into all different types of tote bags and the design process involved in creating unique tote bags which are, now in our society, something of a (fashion) statement. It has profiles of different companies and artists who have designed tote bags. You can recognise some iconic designs if you are a fan of bags (like me) and you can discover some art you'd never seen! There is a free tote bag with the book. I gave it three stars because it is quite expensive.
