What a beautiful anniversary book. This is a large format, glossy and wonderfully reproduced collection from the past sixty years of one of America's most important and entertaining magazines. This contains very little behind-the-scenes history so if your looking for an oral nothing-spared history you may be disappointed but this should really please fans and casual readers as it is packed with illustrations. The book is arranged chronologically with reprints of every cover from the past sixty years running across the bottom of the pages while each page includes a 'sample' page or two from most issues whether it be the parodies of film and TV shoes, cartoons, strips, jokes, fold-ins or whatever. This also works as a mirror of pop-culture in America over the past six years as just about everything that became popular was soon (very soon) mocked in the pages of MAD so you can see each major event in entertainment from Batman (1966) to the dark Knight or Star Wars (1977 -twice!) to the star Wars prequels as well as politics and all manor of fads and fashions. Highly recommended. The only criticism could be that as the pages are merely samples or 'clips' from each major issue you'll be left wanting more.

As a fan of Mad magazine since the 1970's I was looking forward to this book immensely.
It's a large book with a lovely dust jacket with the same illustration produced underneath on the boards.
The paper is thick and shiny and this book exudes high standards.
As mentioned in other reviews there are samples of issues throughout and running along the bottom of the page are the thumbnails of all the magazines covers up to the date of the printing of the book.
If there is one caveat it is that any Mad fan who has bought and enjoyed books such as "Mad about the Fifties", "Sixties", "Seventies", "Eighties", "Movies" and "TV" will no doubt notice that a large proportion of this books contents have already been printed in those previous volumes. For that reason, and that reason only, I gave "Totally Mad" four stars out of five.
If you do not have any or few of the books I have listed and love Mad then this is an essential purchase.

I have been learning cartoon drawing for over four years, and I have exhausted all beginers tuition books on the subject, ordered this book, halleluja wow an endless source of tuition. I have loved mad for years and always used to search one out on train journeys across London and onto wherever we were going, never dreamed of learning from the caricature/cartoon/illustrator genious of the idiots at mad, I suppose I have become an IDIOT!!! Excellent.

sorry for the spelling, WEZ!!!.

I bought this as a christmas present for a friend who has been buying Mad comics for many years. The quality and content of the book cannot be denied but the copy I got had slight tearing on the dust jacket hence the lack of 5 stars. Not the publishers fault though. By the way in the back of the book are some high quality pictures that are good enough to put in a frame. Nice touch.
