I've been mucking around with Photoshop for a few years now (though I mostly use JASC/Corel products, but the functions are basically the same) so I was already a little bit up to speed before following this guide. Most of my Photoshop output has been purely by chance, messing around with tools, seeing what I can make for myself. It's far from professional and I've always wanted to do better and make full use of ALL the tools (their functions have been completely alien to me).
This Total Training product is a long, comprehensive guide for beginners that will initiate you into the world of photo-manipulation in lots of baby-steps. By the end of it you'll be fully able to repair, recompose and retouch any pictures you may have be they digital or scans.
It may take a while to get through, but it's much better than trial and error on your own, which can take years.

Firstly, those turned off by an American voice should not buy this. Right, that's out of the way (accent can be pretty important) so I can get on with saying this is an excellent product. Having recently upgraded to CS5 Design basic at work (wahoo!), I have found these tutorials to be excellent. The Adobe products seem to be becoming increasingly integrated, with common features shared, so it's getting easier to get away with only knowing one software well (InDesign for me), but equally it means you need to know a little bit about them all!
Upon first loading, the DVD loads up an interface, which allows you to access the tutorials through a menu system (you can view them as individual files by 'exploring' the disc), and installs all the files used in the tutorials so you can work along at the same time (very useful).
Each tutorial is well described and allows you to grasp each point properly before jetting off to the next topic. Nothing is rushed through and of course if there's anything you need to recheck you can just replay the video. Most of the videos are labelled to explain what tools and/or techniques are being taught (e.g. 'Learning the curves tool' and not 'Changing tones and contrast'), so it's pretty easy to dip back in to refresh your memory.
I've only really dabbled with photoshop, preferring to buy istock images, but this training has given me a thorough grounding and with a lot of practice I'm getting better at manipulating images. As with all Adobe software, the first hurdle is finding everything, working out which tool does what and how to implement the changes you require. These tutorials give you this vital information in a structured and methodical way; what you do with it is ultimately up to you!

I could just leave this review here but to do it justice I will elaborate.

Even if you had no knowledge of how to use Photoshop, but you were PC literate you would be able to learn how to use Photoshop using this DVD. The tutors voice and manner of delivery is very easy to listen to and follow.
The DVD contains all the files you need to follow the tutor stage by stage as he guides you through all chapters.
It covers all the tools, the setup of the workspace, file formats and much more and basic users or users who just dabble will definitely learn something from most, if not all chapters and would be an excellent resource for reference or purely as a learning tool.
