This book is inspirational reading for anyone who wants to enjoy swimming. It will open up a whole new world to the reader. It isn't a book about how to swim better or faster. Wiener encourages all swimmers to think about the quality of experience in water, to enjoy the sensations of it massaging ans supporting you. He refers throughout to classic literature on swimming. The message is that swimming is for everyone and it is more than just a sport: it can change your life. A must have for any swimmer.

Best swimming book for non-athletes 25 Jan. 2013

Being overweight & looking for an exercise book on swimming, this is the ONLY one I found that did not focus on competition, speed, time trials etc., etc. Thoroughly researched, engagingly written and extremely helpful & inspirational. My favorite swimming book!

A tremendous fun resource throughout the years of swimming! 8 Sept. 2008

When I was swimming on a regular schedule during the 1980's and into the mid-90's, I found this book motivating and fun to read as well as a great resource about all aspects of swimming. The author's enthusiasm for the sport and determination to find a pool wherever he went was inspirational -- I was always proud to also call myself a swimmer! It was particularly helpful on those days when I would look longingly at the living room couch and a good book and think, "I'll go tomorrow!" A couple of carefully chosen paragraphs would get me out the door and to the pool, and 25 laps later, so very glad I went.

I recently decided to return to swimming for its health benefits and because it's always been "my sport," the one I return to time and time again for all of the aquatic enjoyment and ability to eat what I want and never gain an ounce. I knew I had packed up the book somewhere but in the interests of time, just ordered it again and found a used copy for $0.01! Clearly the price was right, and now I am excited to have it on its way to me where it will once again occupy a prominent place on my bedside shelf, to motivate me and remind me of how much I love the water on those days of "Ohhhh, not today!"
