In case it is useful for anyone to know, Xylitol is fatal to dogs. So please be very very careful if you have a dog or have this in your home.

I use this occasionally in baking and quite often in stir fries and as someone who is sugar sensitive, I never feel that great after plain sugar, honey, agave syrup etc. This is good for your teeth and has a glycaemic index score of 7, table sugar is around 70. Put simply this means this sugar alternative will not cause the typical spike in blood sugar that sucrose will, making it a suitable alternative for diabetics or anyone just trying to lose that fat around the middle but still satisfying their sweet tooth.

For those dealing with issues such as gut dysbiosis, this is probably one of the better options. Most of the bacteria and yeast resident in your gut do not thrive on this sugar, the best option is of course no sugar at all...good luck with that!

The only downside to this product seems to be the price.

I have never quite managed to remove all sugar from my life, but with this, I don't have to worry so much about doing so. It tastes nice, you won't notice a difference in flavour between this and sugar. There is no aftertaste when using it and it is great for baking.

Note that it doesn't quite have the same properties as sugar when used for making things, so recipes that rely on a lot of sugar may not turn out so well, i.e. fudge or tablet. Works exceptionally well in cakes/pancakes/biscuits as well as coffee.

I've yet to try making a Sorbet with it, but I'm sure it would work well for that.

I have used this as an alternative to sugar, mainly in baking, and have found it accepteble as an alternative. It does change the texture of cakes which can be rectified by adding an extra egg. It has a different taaste to sugar, and is sweeter than necessary for some mixes so the need to reduce the amount used by up to 20% but is not quite sweet enough for a dark chocoalte cake which needs about 10% more. Used with stewed fruits needs a little sugar to balance out the flavour and achieve the required level of sweetness and taste. I'm told it can cause a change in digestion but I've not experienced this and I have a very sensitive stomach. So, all in all, considering the high levels of diabetes in the UK now, this is a very welcome choice even if very expensive.

Tastes lovely, bakes nicely, but maybe would be better for dieters - I couldn't eat anything for 24 hours after I had it, because my insides felt like vindaloo paste. Just to check (why, oh why did I do it???), I had another dose, and once again I suffered for it! Both times I ate it in homemade pies, so I had a good amount of it. While I was in pain afterwards I googled side effects of this stuff, and they were saying you're not supposed to eat more than a tablespoon of it in a day - I exceeded that. Still - thought I'd warn everyone. I did bake it in biscuits with a much smaller dose, and I felt fine eating it, although my son complained of a sore tummy.
Anyone want the rest of my bag?

I love cooking, but as a Diabetic I often can't eat my results. Total Sweet is just like using sugar, and cakes come out beautifully.
As a sweetener on Strawberries etc it is so useful.

Just as sweet as sugar and with a good taste. Says suitable for diabetics but there appear to be contra indications from other net users which is worrying Will ask my doc tomorrow. Delivery was very good. seems to be economical -Kg pack has lasted me 2 months.Have not tried in cooking.
