4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping examination of the erosion of our personal privacy, 4 Dec 2000
By A Customer
I found John Parker's examination of the extent to which we are all becoming victims of 'Big Brother' both disturbing and fascinating.

Total Surveillance shows that we, the general public, can no longer afford to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that this monitoring of every aspect of our lives is not happening. We are being entered on databases, recorded, tracked, watched and listened to. Unfortunately, as John points out, there is not a lot that the man on the street can do to combat the effects of today's e-spies, hackers and fraudsters armed with their daunting array of electronic gear ... however he does outline some sensible precautions that you can take to cut down on the flow of your personal infomation into the wrong hands.

This is a brilliantly researched book and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in discovering more about the murky world of spying 21st century-style and everyone who is interested in preserving their personal privacy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Other Books, 3 Sep 2007
By Blue Tyson "- Research Finished" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Total Surveillance: Investigating the Big Brother World of E-spies, Eavesdroppers and CCTV (Paperback)
This book is English, so its major focus is on the amazing increase of surveillance of those in the UK, but also talks about the USA and the other Commonwealth countries involved, particularly as it relates to the operation of Echelon and the facilities at Menwith Park and around the world, and the unprecedented access to information the rise of the internet and computing has given those in power.

An interesting bibliography, too.
