I was recommended this C.D by my therapist when I was suffering with anxiety based depression. I thought she was crazy and that there was no way something like this could work for me. I have never used meditation in my life and as I am very controlling with an unwillingness to let go, so I first used it just to tell my therapist that I had.

I was very suprised by it's effect; for twenty minutes I was able to switch off from my thoughts. It did allow me to relax, only for a short time at first but as I used it more I was able to stay calmer for longer.

The cd uses breathing and calming exercises to gently move you into a meditive state. It then takes you into a story with music and sound effects. The voice is a female with an english accent. Find yourself a comfy spot where you know you will be left in peace for twenty minutes and use head phones for best results. I am now using this c.d at least once a week just to keep myself free from stress.

Although I am an extreme example of why to use this c.d I have also recommended it to friends and family who find every day living a little stressfull and all have said it helped.

I have tried various relaxation techniques and found them all to be a bit silly and not very useful. This one really works! I have been really stressed recently and at times find it difficult to sleep as my mind is buzzing with all the things that have happened through the day. This CD really helps me clear my mind and drift off.

The meditations consist of background music and sound effects and a calming voice which talks you through some sort of relaxing scenario. It starts of with breathing and relaxing and then she leads you on a little journey in your mind. Each track is about 20 minutes long.

Track one is set around a desert Oasis, it's my least favourite track as the lead up to the actual relaxation takes quite a long time. I don't find it especially relaxing though it still works, I end up asleep half way through.

Track two is a journey through a valley to a secluded woodland where there is a wood cabin and a fire. It's very calming and peaceful and very easy to imagine.

Track 3 is a walk around a secret garden, she describes various parts of the garden and leaves it up to your imagination to creat the image. There is a relaxing stage in a hammock which is just perfect. You can try most of this track online for free at their website which would give you a really good idea if this would work for you.

I have bought another of the CDs in the range and can't wait to try it out. Nothing has ever worked like this for me. It helps me sleep and instantly relaxes if I do it through the day as well. Just perfect!

These are good quality relaxation CDs. The visualisations are well-written and the narration is professional-sounding and soothing, read by a youngish sounding woman is a very slightly posh English accent. There are also some unobtrusive yet effective sound effects to make the fantasy more real, and some very good soothing background music.

However, personally I only enjoyed the first out of the three 20 minutes meditations. It was of walking across a hot desert, and then finding yourself in a green oasis with a still pool, and just enjoying the atmosphere, which is created very well on the CD. Then you leave the oasis feeling refreshed. It was a fun, exotic meditation that guides you into an almost trance-like state of relaxation.

The second meditation is of walking along a country lane (somewhere in Britain so it sounds), past fields of sheep, down into a valley where you enter a log cabin as it starts to rain. Then you sit in an armchair, and the ticking of the clock on the mantel piece slows down as you relax. Then after a bit you leave. It was still a well-done meditation, but I didn't find it as uplifting or healing as the desert oasis. I live in Wales, so I don't need to fantasize about sheep and rain and isolation - I've got it already thanks! Plus I find ticking clocks really annoying.

The third meditation is finding yourself in an English country garden on a summers day. There's a stone fountain trickling water, and then you lie in a hammock for a bit. It's a walled 'secret garden', but I still felt a little bit exposed and weird in it, especially as we are supposed to imagine being dressed in only a white robe. I felt like I was in `The Prisoner' or something. And it was a bit boring.

However, my liking for more exotic settings is totally personal, and probably lots of people would enjoy the log cabin and the garden. I will still be checking out some of the other CDs in this range, as they are very well-done.

After reading a rave review of this CD in a national magazine, I decided to try it myself. Though I did everything "wrong," I still enjoyed it and found the guided meditations interesting, fun--and very relaxing!

Ideally, the stressed-out listener will sit in a quiet, darkened room or someplace where there will be no interruptions. The female guide then speaks in a soft, slow voice with British accent, explaining what will happen during the exercise and guiding the listener's breathing so that a relaxed state results. After about ten minutes, the guide begins a narrative in which the listener visualizes himself/herself. Gradually the listener enters a self-hypnotic state in which the imagination is on high alert, the listener's own imagination maintaining and continuing the relaxed state until the speaker guides him/her back into wakefulness.

Three separate 21-minute meditative stories offer three separate opportunities for total relaxation. The first track is "deep recharge" in the sanctuary of a desert oasis. The second is for "inner peace" in cabin in a beautiful, secluded valley, and the third is "pure relaxation" in a hammock in a garden with fountain and birds.

As I said earlier, I did everything "wrong." I listened to this CD while jogging four miles. Obviously, I was not in a darkened place, and I wasn't able to close my eyes. I did, however, concentrate on the tarmac road, not the distracting scenery, and I found that though the breathing exercise was not in sync with my own breathing, that I was able to key into the idea of the CD (since I have done some meditation in the past). I usually listen to books on tape or to music while jogging, but I loved the imagined scenes in which I found myself as a result of this tape.
