TRAIN SMARTER WITH THE NEWEST HIGH-TECH HEART RATE MONITORS
Whether you are just starting a fitness program or are an experienced athlete, you can greatly benefit from paying attention to your heart rate during exercise. Heart rate serves as a window into the body, giving you minute-to-minute feedback on your physical condition based on all the factors affecting it--exercise intensity, diet, temperature, humidity, altitude, fatigue, and more.
"Total Heart Rate Training" explains:
-Heart function during exercise
-How heart rate monitors work
-Simple ways to use a heart rate monitor
-Advanced heart rate training techniques
With "Total Heart Rate Training," you can design a personalized program that practically guarantees you'll achieve your fitness goals. You'll be able to determine the precise and optimal heart rate for each day's workout by using your heart rate monitor to keep you on target. It's like having a personal trainer telling you when to go harder and when to back off.
This book also shows how powermeters and accelerometers enable you to compare your body's input, as measured by heart rate, with its output-power or pace. It's a combination that allows you to train at your peak for that competitive edge.

Very informative and knowledgeable book. Bought this book as I had been given a heart monitor a few months before and used it regularly but not well. Having read this book I now know how to use this to inform and tailor training and now get a lot more information from my monitor and know what it means and what to do with it.

I would like to remind that I am not a professionals athlete but I regularly do sport and I try to keep myself informed about training techniques. For me this is a very good book and I give to it 4 stars. For my level of knowledge it is more than ok but probably the advances athletes deserves something more, that why I do not give 5. Definitely I recommend it for people at my same level assuring that you can really learn more. Now some points
Good points:
- Good organization of topics, they follow a coherent point of view and they are progressively organized without any jumps of lack of information.
- I completely share the point of view: intensity and organization matter. The rest is a very key point and also I completely agree in the theory of periodization and cycles; this is valid not only for running but also for other sports like weight lifting. Definitely good.
- Good field test to verify LT and aerobic threshold.
- Good explanatory tables
Weak points
- Putting the nice tables at the end is a bit risky, personally I did not pay to them a lot of attention
- Sometimes it is a bit difficult to read because some chapter are full of concept. This is not a book to read just one time...
- Probably some more fields evidences and example are needed. They are speeded inside the section. It would be good to isolate them
Have a good reading

Disappointing 2 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Very interesting and informative book let down by the quality of renering to kindle compatible version. Most of the figures are illegible (faint with lots of grey text) and it's impossible to enlarge! This makes large chunks of the text incomprehensible. Buy a hardcopy if you want this book!
