Received from amazon, well packaged and fast delivery. The Toshiba Encore 2 i bought to replace an aged laptop, i thought it would be just about good enough to browse the internet and access email. I was rather surprised however to find the quad-core processor is reasonably nippy, taking care of its windows updates several hours faster than my partners Toshiba satellite with a AMD a4. The touchscreen is very responsive (oversensitive sometimes), and the interface does not appear to suffer from any lag, all applications I've run so far are smooth. This tablet of course has the advantage of running standard windows applications and it does so very well... until you look at the disk space remaining. This model has only 32gb of space, so make sure of what disk space you need. I intend to buy a 128gb card soon. Overall though I think this tablet is good value for money, reasonable power, good screen, touch, reasonable graphics (not pushed it yet other than asphalt 8, which ran perfect), amazing battery life, excellent WiFi range, brilliant sound quality too. Not tinny. Nice job Toshiba... the next question I have is will it be as reliable as my last Toshiba?

I love mine and it is fast and reliable. Been using for three months. Bought a keyboard case and connected a Bluetooth mouse. Fully functions a both tablet and laptop. Comes with Office 365 that normally costs about £60 which can also be used with a second laptop. Screen is great, speed is good. Formatted a class 10 32GB micro sd in ntfs format by right clicking the sd card in file explorer and then format selecting ntfs from the drop-down box.

This allows you to automatically save to the sd card. You can then go to pc settings and under storage you can select to automatically save to the sd card.

    This boosts your storage.

Using USB on the go you can use flash drives, wired mouse and a hub to allow more than one device.

With micro hdmi you can connect to a tv or external monitor. All round a great device.

Works fine except for one/two very annoying issues - the tablet will sometimes lock up solid - screen is on but no longer responds to any interaction - only option is to force a restart by pressing power button for 30 secs or so. Related (I suspect) the tablet will sometimes refuse to wake up from Sleep mode which again requires the power button to be held down for about 30 secs to force a reset. I have severe concerns that the table will fail because of the need to press and hold down this button so often and for so long. I worry that the button will break.

I suspect it must be a BIOS/drover issue but no updates that I've installed have so far fixed this.

I've had this tablet for a couple of weeks now. It's quite a fast performer for a budget Windows 8.1 tablet. Most programs open up fairly quickly and desktop web browsers like Pale Moon respond as well as on my 15.6" i7 laptop. I had some concerns initially about the 32GB of onboard storage but after doing a hefty Windows update and installing Pale Moon, CCleaner and several necessary programs, I still had around 18GB of free space. This should be sufficient for future updates and handling my web cache. Any music, games or other programs that don't need the primary HDD can be installed on the microSD card.

The screen, while not 1080p quality is nevertheless very sharp and text is nice and crisp. Video plays well and the speakers pack quite a punch considering their small size. The only gripe I really have is one tiny little dead pixel, though I can only see it if I'm really looking for it.

For those like me who hate the tile based Metro interface, simply download a program like Start8. It gives you a fully functional Start button and menu and you can configure the tablet to boot into desktop and disable things like the charms bar and hot corners. You can still access the Start screen from the replacement Start menu if you want to use the Windows Store and full screen apps.

Overall I'm very pleased with my first Windows tablet and definitely recommend it over cheaper generic tabs.
