This review is from: Toshiba Satellite T130-13N 13.3-Inch Laptop (Intel Core2 Solo ULV SU3500 1.4GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Webcam, 11 hr batt life BT, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, 64 Bit, White) (Electronics)
now that I've had this laptop a few weeks I feel able to share what I think of it
good points # battery life - very good bad points # trackpad buttons are so stiff, you can't really use them for more than a few minutes. I've had to buy and now carry everywhere I go, an external mouse just to use it. # screen doesn't open very widely so it's actually not that easy to use in a lot of positions - such as on your lap for example. duh! # If you press the middle of the keyboard it deforms quite a bit (~2mm) # Junkware - lots of it, Toshiba bundles all sorts or rubbish with this laptop and if you're a beginner it's going to confuse the hell out of you. Plus a lot of this software actually makes your laptop run more slowly. # This laptop comes with no OS CDs (unless you want to pay Toshiba £30 or so to send you some - but even then you don't get windows 7 CDs, you get Windows 7 plus all the Toshiba junkware mixed in so you can't ever do a clean install). # I got the white version but it's actually black on the underside and in real life I think it looks a bit cheap, a little attention to detail and it coud have looked really good, but Toshiba opted to save a bit of money. Just a word about Windows 7 - I don't think it's really ready yet, this laptop actually does routine tasks such as opening photos a lot more slowly than my 4 year old Samsung running WinXP. It's also 64bit and I am coming across more and more bits of software that I used to use that don't have a compatable version ready yet for Windows 7 64 bit. That will improve in the coming months though. Sometimes this laptop is busy doing stuff when it shouldn't be and the result is a really sluggish mouse which is so unresponsive it actually becomes unuseable - I don't know if this is due to windows 7 or toshiba. Basically this is not a laptop I will fall in love with, despite the fact that I will now have to use it for the next few years - I have always bought Samsung in the past because they also have some models with excellent battery life, and in future it'll be back to Samsung.
