Experience Stunning Sound with Dolby Advanced Audio

Never experienced great sound from your PC? Prepare yourself for the vibrant, engaging sound that only comes from a Dolby Advanced Audio laptop. Whether you use onboard or external speakers or a set of headphones, you'll find your music, movies, and games will sound more vivid and true to life than you ever imagined possible.

Dolby Advanced Audio:

  • Optimises audio quality to deliver the best possible sound from each PC
  • Works with any PC audio output, including headphones, external speakers, or your computer's built-in speakers
  • Enhances the PC audio experience with sound that's more realistic and more dramatic than ever before

How does Dolby advanced audio produce such breathtaking results? Firstly, a lot of your audio will be missing high-frequency sounds, such as cymbals crashing. These are often lost when sound is digitally converted (known as "encoding"). Dolby Advanced Audio restores these missing frequencies. Dolby Advanced Audio also does the same low-end sounds. By extending the bass response by up to an octave, it lets you experience vibrant special effects, from heart-pounding explosions to the distant bellow of a foghorn, with all their original impact.

Dolby Advanced Audio is also optimised for your PC. That's because Dolby engineers, using the same techniques they put to use in tuning movie theatres and mixing rooms, work with PC manufacturers to drive the best possible sound from each PC configuration. As a result, you experience dramatically better sound.

Multi-touch Functionality

The Satellite L775's touchpad features multi-touch gesture support, providing an innovative alternative to conventional scrolling and buttons. Toshiba Multi-touch Touchpad
Take control with the multi-touch gesture touchpad.

The multi-touch touchpad recognises four different finger gestures.

  • Pinch Gesture--two-finger pinch delivers zooming functionality in many Windows applications. The two-finger pinch zoom can be used to zoom in or out of photos, maps, or documents.
  • Scrolling--two-finger and two-finger reverse scrolling delivers functionality in Windows applications by using two separate fingers in a horizontal or vertical motion anywhere on the touchpad, with the scrolling rate controlled by your finger speed.
  • Momentum Motion--delivers smooth, fast, trackball-like cursor motion. A quick flick of one finger across the touchpad surface can move the cursor across the entire screen and is ideal for use with computer gaming applications.
  • Rotation--rotate photos and other items in 90-degree increments by placing two separated fingers on the touchpad and moving them around in a continuous clockwise or counter-clockwise circular motion.

Great Kit 17 Oct 2011
By Macman
Style Name:Core i3-2310M, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD
It came 24 hours after ordering - pretty good service. The good news carried on when I set the laptop up. Windows 7 makes it easy to transfer all your old files and (compatible) programs from your old computer. Had to buy a transfer cable though. The screen is clear and small print is easy to read even with my eyes. BBCi player progs come across pretty good too, clarity is good - as is the sound. I was bracing myself for a sound quality less than that of my Mesh PC but I was pleasantly surprised. As a hobby I write and record music and this laptop linked to a powered speaker system provides the goods. If there are issues, then I would say that the connections on the right hand side are a little crowded - 2 USBs, DVD tray, and microphone and speaker links. If like me, you prefer to use a conventional mouse, this side can get a little too crowded. But that may be me - this is my first laptop with a touch pad to negotiate.
All in all an excellent buy. I like the key pad which is reassuring to the touch. The real complaint is that the handbook is electronic and cannot be studied before setting up. When you read sentences like 'study the handbook before installation....' you really want to give some Toshiba nerd a piece of your mind.
Would I say buy one - yes - if like me you're not into games and want a laptop for internet, sound, printing and file storage.

Excellent Value 19 Oct 2011
Style Name:Core i5-2410M, 6GB, 640GB, Blu-ray
I recently purchased this laptop as i needed an upgrade for CAD design and multimedia design hence the reason i went for the higher spec.

Upon setting it up with all the software, i was very impressed by the speed and capability of the laptop it handles even the largest models with ease and graphically doesnt distort at all.

Only down side which isnt really just what i would have prefared, is the speakers volume at full blast isnt as loud as my older Toshiba satilite. (still good sound quality tho)

Excellent Value for money in my eyes.

By Keith Joseph HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Style Name:Core i3-2310M, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD
This Toshiba Satellite L775-12H is a good looking 17.3" laptop in its stylish silver/grey `matrix' patterned lid and trim. Screen resolution is 1,600 x 900 pixels, not hi-def but fine for such a budget laptop. Although the Intel i3-2310M Processor [translation: a dual core Sandy Bridge CPU clocked at 2.1GHz] is zippy enough, the graphics grunt come from the CPU's integrated HD3000 graphics that shares the laptops system memory, nicking up to 1,696Mb of your 4Gb installed memory depending on the demands of the task. The CPU's integrated HD 3000 graphics is far better than previous generations, being the equal of entry level NVidia GeForce 310M and AMD HD 5450 mobile graphics. The i3-2310M processor supports hyperthreading, enabling the dual Core CPU to handle 4 threads at once, helping it run multiple applications. However the i3-2310M processor doesn't support turbo-boosting for increased CPU performance.

Thanks to the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics, this Toshiba laptop predictably scored a lowly 3,000 in 3DMark06, whereas our old Dell 1745 17.3" laptop with dedicated ATI 4650 1Gb graphics memory scored 7,100 [and cost twice the price]. So modern 3D games in hi-res are out, although this laptop is just about powerful enough to play games like Sims 3, World of WarCraft, and Age of empires III at their lowest detail settings. Otherwise it's fine for playing HD video and is responsive enough for general internet/office chores, older or simpler games [e.g. BigFish], and it can play movie DVDs via its internal DVD drive. If you want a bit more zip for gaming, you can buy models a bit further up the L755 tree that have 1Gb NVidia graphics cards or faster Sandy Bridge CPUs installed, with the core specs and case being the same otherwise. We have quad-core gaming desktop PCs, a Wii and Sony PS3 so are happy to skip hard-core gaming on this laptop and stick to the likes of Skype [VGA camera and microphone built in], school/home-office work, movies, basic/retro games, and internet surfing.

This model comes with a tray loading DVD +/-/RAM multi-RW drive, 4Gb DDR3 RAM, a spacious 640Gb hard drive and Onkyo branded integrated speakers [under the neat twin grills below the LCD screen]. These Onkyo speakers aren't great for playing pop music, but they aren't rubbish and do sound good for PC bells and whistles and movie soundtracks. Network support is 802.11b/g/n wireless and connection is always excellent via our beefed up D-Link Pre-n wireless router. The wired LAN is the older 100Mb/s and there's BlueTooth. The 4Gb of system RAM was supplied as a single module so it was very cheap to upgrade via Crucial to double up the RAM to 4Gb+4Gb. 8Gb is the laptops maximum and as the installed Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium can access all the memory it's a worthwhile and simple upgrade for a speed boost. Nero Essentials, the Laptop Manual, Chicony Camera Assistant, and Skype came preinstalled.

The laptop arrived in a sleek box, with just a quickstart guide and the 13A mains transformer brick. Switching on, the laptop went through an easy setup procedure, and after a few minutes the system was up and running and connected to the internet. The keyboards pleasant to use, typical black scrabbleboard keys, all a decent size, with a nice numeric keyboard and the half-height arrow keys are OK. The numlock and caps lock have neat green LEDs and the front of the laptop has discrete white/red LEDs on the edge for battery power and hard drive use. There's a power on and a useful trackpad off button [when mousing], although they are black and hide in the keyboard trim a bit. Battery life is over 2 hours and there's various Toshiba eco and system utilities to help extend it to five, and we set Sleep and Hibernation modes so that the laptop can pop quickly back into life when we return to it. Other utilities advise on processor fan speed and CPU temperature and such like. There's loads of ports: external VGA monitor, RJ-45, external microphone, stereo headphone, two USB 2.0, another USB 2.0 supporting Sleep-and-Charge, VGA Web Camera with microphone, HDMI, and Multi-Card Reader (SDHC/SDXC Card, Memory Stick Pro and MMC card), but no Expresscard PCI slot. There's a decent track-pad [matched in with the silver trim], and the laptops 41.4 x 27.0 x 2.8 cm (front)/3.8 cm(rear) and weighs about 3.0 kg [quite light and easily carted about].

McAfee anti-virus was installed but it was only valid for a month, so I replaced that with Norton Anti-virus as I had a spare one year licence. Office 2010 is pre-installed but only as a trial, so I replaced that with cheap educational versions of Office 2007 and Adobe Design Premium. We bought the Futon Company's superb 'Birch Lap Tray Table' and a Logitech small Nano VX wireless mouse and have found the laptop a joy to use. The screen lifts up nicely, and although the lid easily flexes, the plastic base feels rigid enough [as it's quite thick probably]. The laptops responsive for everyday tasks, looks and feels good and my wife and kids were soon installing there iTunes and BigFish game collection. We knew what we were getting when we went for this Intel graphics based laptop and I have to say we are quite impressed with power, build quality, classy looks, and storage capacity of this Toshiba Satellite laptop, so 4.5* for function, style and value. It's not much more expensive than a netbook, but it's more powerful, has the DVD drive, and for the price of a 64Gb iPad, this Toshiba L755-12H is a proper professional product with a keyboard and full connectivity that can run Office 2010 and Photoshop CS5 about the home and garden - it's designed for the home not business/commuting. Our family like it, particularly because it looks and feels so nice. It comes with an [upgradable] 1 year prepaid return to base warranty.
