5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba SD5010, 15 Aug 2010

This review is from: Toshiba SD5010 Upscaling DVD Player with USB (Electronics)
I purchased this to allow me to play video files direct, to save having to convert them to DVD. After reading some reviews I was a little worried that I made a mistake, as the review and the documentation said that it would only accept a 4Gb USB flash drive and that the largest file it would play was 1Gb. I can confirm that this is out of date information, as I connected my 125Gb USB disk drive and played larger than IGb files without difficulty. However it is important that the drive is formatted FAT32 as my other USB drive formatted NTFS wouldn't play, but once reformatted FAT32, everything was fine.

The video quality is excellent, you can really see the difference between this and my old Sony DVD recorder. All in all a great purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect purchase, 8 Dec 2010
This review is from: Toshiba SD5010 Upscaling DVD Player with USB (Electronics)
I purchased this after my previous DVD player sadly died. I chose this as I wanted to get the HD quality without having to upgrade my whole dvd collection for Bluray. I also wanted a player that would allow me to play video files.

This does all of that and is very nice to look at too. I've managed to watch various .avi files on this player no problem. Yes the menus aren't top quality but its a small price to pay for the quality of the product.

Very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this for people looking to upgrade their dvd player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba SD5010, 12 Sep 2011
This review is from: Toshiba SD5010 Upscaling DVD Player with USB (Electronics)
Having read all the reviews on here and other websites, I was worried that the blacks wouldn't be black. Or that it doesn't make me coffee in the morning. Ok maybe not the last one ;)

I have so far found the DVD player does everything it says on the box, it plays DVDs though scart and HDMI... It also plays divX avi's from dvd's cd's and via usb. It will reliably read from any media that formatted to fat32 (not NTFS... So what!) I have tried it with external hard disks, usb pen (2,4,8, and 16gb) All work provided you format them correctly to fat32.

The picture quality is excellent. I am no WhatHifi reviewer... However as an ordinary consumer I have no complaints about the hardware at this price. It is excellent. If you want better picture quality buy a blueray player.

Hope this has been helpful.
