Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The little brother of Toshiba's range of DVD players, the SD110E certainly has looks on its side, with a sleek silver finish and a minimalist feel. It carries the usual set of connections on the back for UK players--S-VHS, Composite and Scart outputs, plus coaxial digital audio-out and a set of phono sockets. The Scart is fully wired for RGB, Composite and S-VHS.

Nearly all the controls are situated solely on the remote control. The on-screen setup is one of the best: it's clear, functional and logical. It has a useful set of speed controls with 1/8x, 1/4x, 1/2x, 2x, 8x and 30x in both directions. The three level zoom can be panned around the image, which can be fun looking for the wires during stunt scenes or for spotting the wigs on the stuntmen. Rounding out the features is a 3-D spatial-sound mode which works better than most at giving the impression you've got more speakers than you really have.

The good news doesn't stop there. The Toshiba delivers a superb picture with vivid colours and crisp contrast. It employs Toshiba's Super Anti-Alias Filter to improve detail and contrast, which helps explain the excellent performance. Sound performance proves equally commendable with a wide and clear soundscape. The SD110E delivers an awful lot of performance for the money, throw in the good looks and decent set of features and it's hard to beat for pure value. --Miles Berkeley

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value for money, 27 Jun 2001
This review is from: Toshiba SD110E DVD Player (Electronics)
A great little player that is easily as good as, if not better than my Pioneer 525. Picture quality is excellent, plus the unit has several facilities unknown on basic players, like image zoom, screensaver, picture and sound adjustments.

The player must also be one of the cheapest on the market to include component output (great for newer Toshiba TV's & certain projectors) in addition to the normal SCART (RGB, composite & S-Video). Essentially it is the same as the SD210E - it's big brother, except for optical out, the ability to play CDV, MP3, CDR and CD-RW. The remote although a bit plasticky is nicely designed and covers every function available on the machine. The player has a colour set-up menu and a neat on screen display that allows a second way of accessing every function using the cursor keys - very neat.

All in all a great little machine and one I can heartily recommend.

Outstanding picture quality and sound - at this price there is nothing to rival it. This is the second player that I have owned (the first being the Wharfedale DVD 750) and despite being a similar price they have nothing else in common - the Toshiba is far superior in every way.

Very functional and easy to use, the only disappointment being the lack of CD-R playback and no known multi-region hack (yet!). Still highly recommended though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Player for the money, 10 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD110E DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a good little player. No real frills, but it does the basics well. The picture quality is good on all Toshiba models - and this is no exception. Does a great job of audio too - makes a decent CD player replacement. Easy to set up. easy to use. Decent remote.
As the review says - there is only a single SCART socket. Other than this it is hard to fault.
