First impressions was that the laptop was solidly built but it does look a bit strange with the speakers in the hand rest. It has some lovely textures and feels great to the touch (I know that sounds a bit weird). I found it slow at first but removed the tons of bloatware Toshiba had inflicted on the netbook and it was working pretty well. Why have so much stuff running when you have about three quarters of a gig of RAM available? Brainless. It was like the average netbook on browsing and email and stuff but came into its own with games such as Track Mania Nations Forever, which is stunningly good...nice crisp and swift graphics and great with the sound booming from the speakers.

I upgraded the memory to 2gigs (the one gig really isn't enough and I have read you can upgrade to 4 gig but you need a 64 bit operating system) and put in a SSD drive (it's a 2.5 inch hard drive and not a horrid little 1.8 inch one). This process was so easy and shows how good Toshiba are at design. I installed a 64 bit version of Xubuntu (Linux) on it. Very very impressed now as it works like a dream. Can even play second life on it which averages out at about 15fps on low settings.

The speakers may be a bit weird where they are situated but they sound excellent and can be loud for a little netbook. Excellent dynamic range and not your usual tin can sounding speakers. The screen is shiny but the display is bright enough to be seen in sunlight and looks sharp and impressive. Keyboard is ok but nothing special.

Battery life varies from about four hours for continual gaming to 13 hours of just surfing with web having flash blocked. Just depends what you get up to and what your settings are. Flash works a treat but cannot do HD vid on BBC iPlayer in either windows or Linux even with a memory upgrade.

AMD are obviously onto a winner here with their new fusion APU. They 'feel' quite different to Intel atom processors in how they perform.

A netbook for day to day use with the ability to do some gaming, solidly built with a character of its own and a good sound output to annoy the neighbours.
