4.0 out of 5 stars Good Notebook 1 Nov 2009
    By Jimbo
    I only received this notebook a week ago but here are my first impressions;

    (+) Positives
    Lightweight, Solid build and design
Good sized tactile keyboard and track pad
Easy connect, speedy Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity
Almost silent operation except under intensive processing
Good battery life - particulary when set to eco mode (dims the screen and reduces processing power)
    Decent webcam

    (-) Negatives
The 2GB RAM upgrade is almost certainly required for windows 7
This notebook is shipping with Windows 7 starter edition - this has some minor drawbacks (read up on these)
Toshiba load it up with a load of superflous and annoying software which kills the CPU/RAM on startup. Easy to disable from startup or uninstall though

I bought one of these to run some digital camera control software which I have written. My requirements were - portability, long battery life, reasonable disk storage. I am very pleased with the results I have achieved. I don't like the brown colour but that does not impact the performance obviously and is purely a personal issue - and, it's probably better than white when trying to stalk wildlife to be honest.

I installed 2GB before I even bothered trying to switch the machine on. I may buy a second battery to ensure I can complete a full day in the field without any worry over battery life remaining.

I would recommend it to anyone with the usual caveat that it is ONLY a netbook and will NEVER perform like a laptop. Do not buy ANY netbook and expect to run processor intensive or demanding graphics applications - if that is your requirement, then buy a laptop.

3.0 out of 5 stars My thoughts 18 Feb 2010
I have just unpacked and setup one of these and the other model N150.

For me the key issue is the RAM 1GB is just nooo good for windows 7....even if you uninstall all the other process hungry software it comes bundled with it still slow.

Process on startup and before removing loads of software was around 72, after 56, stuck in 2GB of RAM and much better.

If you don't need windows 7...go for a Samsung NC10 (i have had a few) and for me a better keyboard and just more solid..

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money needs the RAM Upgrade 28 Mar 2010
I must say one thing this is my third Netbook, having tried Acer and Asus, it certainly shows that Toshiba should be top of the pile, and in my opinion they are, the only niggle being the requirement for the 2GB RAM upgrade, once this is done, then what a difference it makes.
Don't look at others when you can get this one at such a bargain price, the battery life is great 7 - 8 hours if you use the battery management system from Toshiba, screen is very bright and clear and the keyboard is superb, can't really praise this machine enough, JUST BUY ONE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and stylish 27 Feb 2010
In satin brown, this makes for a stylish, yet reasonably powerful machine. Set up is very quick and easy, although as with any new Windows machine you find it downloading update after update from Microsoft.

Despite being small -- which is probably what you want -- the keyboard still feels nice and is very comfortable. Some machines offer higher resolution screens, but this netbook proves that you really don't need that when the screen is only 10.1" anyway; the quality is superb.

Long battery life is important to me as I don't want to be carrying cables around. Fortunately, I prefer to keep screen fairly dim anyway and so that advertised nine hour battery life is attainable.

A sixty day trial of Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition is included so if you plan on buying this, it's good to know you want have to worry about installation.

    Amazon Verified Purchase
Great product.Very neat and light but the small keyboard takes getting used to.
The screen is bright and is a main feature in this netbook.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed 7 Dec 2009
    By Tommy
I have got this for about a week now but I am going to return it back to amazon:

The Look: spectacular, however the giant battery makes it look stupid.

Battery Life: Given the unreasonably large size it lasts ages

Keyboard: It takes some time to get used to, but if you need to type essays and stuff I don't recommend it as it frequently fail to sense the space button.

Internet: I use it mainly to browse normal websites such as facebook and news, however if you try to open more than 2 tabs in a page then it takes more than 15 seconds for you to open another tab inside the internet explorer.

Movie: It's the worst thing about this netbook, it couldn't run films smoothly, and the image would often hold for seconds while the sound continues.

Screen: for some reason if you turn it on for more than 5 hours sometimes the screen image rotate like a merry-go-round

Updates: It wouldn't let you shut down the computer until it finishes all the "updates" which takes 5 to 20 minutes, and "updates occur as frequently as once every 3 days.

Speaker: not loud enough, however once you plug an external speaker 3% volume is sufficient as more than 8% is excessively loud.

Others: If the netbook decides that it doesn't want to open a particular programme it will pretend to load for 5 seconds but does not give you any response thereafter as if you have never clicked it.

    Webcam: low quality

Antivirus: whenever you download an exe it automatically change the file name to something like 575754 in which you cannot open, unless you click the accept button prompted by MacAfee 30 seconds later due to slow computer response.
