4.0 out of 5 stars Stylish , Cool and Fast 30 April 2009
I bought this item yday , I wasn't sure to buy this one or WD same capacity. after checking the both reviews, I decided to buy the Toshiba one.
I got the item 2day with great packing. It is so stylish and cool comparing to WD. and also, It s got an LED on front cover which makes it cool. I think it s alittle bit slimmer and lighter than the WD one. then, I connected to my laptop.
It connected very fast and windows visa installed the hardware straightforward after connection. Also, I checked it with windows XP, it works great on that as well.
I transferred some files to this hard drive and the speed of transferring was between 10.4 Mb/s to 17 Mb/s depends on the files. It doesn't make anysound when it is tranferring datas.
the speed is same as WD.
I highly recommend this product for whom r looking for a stylish and good performance storage device.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it looks, but not bad. 15 Feb 2009
Verified Purchase
I bought this hard drive partially for storage and part for its looks. Each size drive has a different colour pattern and I thought I'd get each one in the range for different genres (320GB for Avi & mpgs, 250GB for General storage & 160GB for music - I notice now they have a bigger one with a white pattern).

It arrived heavily packaged, though a bit bashed, very well protected (took about 15mins to get through it all and to the device itself).

It does look quite sleek and very portable, but the finish is much more plastic than appears on the photos.

One of the other features I wanted was the lack of need for an adaptor so I could move it around between my home PC, Xbox, laptop or work pc. However, the supplied USB cable is tiny (about 10cm) and it doesn't seem to work through an extension or with a different cable. So with tower cases I have to crawl in behind to attach & remove it.

That said, it seems pretty quick and it does what I need it to do. If it had a longer cable or could use any cable I'd have given it 4 stars and the other star is just for the plastic finish.

All in though pretty good and I may still get the others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as pretty as they make out but good value. 12 July 2009
If you're buying this based purely on the looks, I'm not sure I'd bother. It looks OK, but given Toshiba seem to be trying to market it based on appearance, it's not exactly anything special. Plus, I wonder why they chose to make one in grey. Obviously I chose the drive based on capacity, not colour, but it's a shame they couldn't have chosen something a bit more interesting, considering the others are much brighter. It's also slightly bigger than I expected, not really pocket sized, unless you've got particularly massive pockets.

Besides the looks, it seems to work OK. The USB is short, but I didn't find that a problem, I mean how far away do you really need to stretch it. It was fairly easy to use, but you need to know what you're doing because there's virtually no instructions and nothing to prompt you on screen at all.

All in all, it's fairly cheap and seems to work OK, so pretty good value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable item 27 Aug 2009
I bought this external hard drive from amazon. As usual, fast perfect delivery package. It is super! The size is amazing and the speed of copying to/from is very appropriate for all kinds of files (Office + Media). The only -ve point is that the USB cable is short. You need to find either an extension (I did) or to look for a longer cable.
In general, I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its Okay Not bad 18 April 2009
Verified Purchase
I bought this Order on 15/04 i got it today after 2 days. Coming to product, Lets talk about -ves first because its our tendency to suspect products :)

1. its not as cute as shown in the picture (No doubt in the picture its
realy cute, in reality its not bad).

2.Slightly its bigger than Western Passport size i believe, but exactly this 12x8x1.5 cms in dimensions but its not bigger than my passport :)

3. bottom it gives vessel or bowl shape on bottom, its not exactly gives squre book shape.

4. Most importantly it has very very tiny cable, which you cannot imagine. I got some additional lengthy camera cable so I dont regret.

1. USB 2.0 is quite fast other products are not usb 2.0 Google what is
difference btn 2.0 and 1.0
2. cost effective
3. It saved all my laptop data.
4. Scratch free base support

All and all cost effective and good product. but Toshiba got to improve few -ve things mentioned above though its not impacting actual purpose of storage :-). But guys dont worry its good product to purchase.

I hope this information would help.

2.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Hard Drive 1 Jun 2009
I bought the hard drive mainly to store school work and to backup files on my laptop, i was dissapointed when i recieved it as the hard drive came in a flimsy box and the usb cable they provided was about 10cm. Problems started to occur with the usb cable they provided. Every time the usb cable was touched, ever so slightly, it would cut off power to the hard drive and turn it off which made it impossible to transfer files the drive. i reccomend that customers buy a bigger cable if you getting the toshiba hard drive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not as fast as I'd have hoped 31 Aug 2009
Generally pretty good. Nice and small, sleek design.

Only concern is that it seems rather slow for such a "high-tech" modern hard drive. Have also tried a "La Cie" for similar price and that seems to transfer much faster.

Would be interested to hear if any other people who have bought this found a similar problem.
