TOSHIBA ET20 SHORT THROW PROJECTOR

Toshiba ET20 You can place the projector on a coffee table between you and the screen for a completely unobstructed view.

A compact high-end amplifier and Dolby® Digital 5.1 surround
sound system are built into the projection unit, keeping your
home cinema system totally compact and portable. The
ET20 also boasts an integral DVD player for the ultimate
all-in-one solution.

Toshiba ET20

A DIFFERENT APPROACH

A new concept in projector technology, Extreme Short
Throw Projection is transforming home cinema. Thanks to
the ultra-short focus lense, the ET20 can project
an image up to 2.5m (100 inches) in diagonal, from a distance
of just 1.3m.

Toshiba ET20 ALL-IN-ONE SOLUTION

The ET20 is the definitive ‘plug-and-play’ one stop home
entertainment system.
Not simply a projector, the ET20 also features an integral DVD
player, amplifier and Dolby® Digital
5.1 surround sound system.

Image quality on the ET20 and ET10 models is astonishing
thanks to HQV (Hollywood Quality Video), an award-winning,
state-of-the-art processing chip from Silicon Optix.

Traditionally used only in high-end professional video equipment

Toshiba ET20

such as movie studios and broadcasting because of its size and
high cost, the HQV processor has evolved, bringing the benefits
to home cinema.

The HQV chip processes individual pixels in the signal to produce
incredibly sharp images with minimal jagged edges, fine noise
reduction and precise colour tuning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for first projector, 22 Oct 2007
By Stephen C. Baird "w12bear" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a great projector for people who just want a plug and go device. Does exactlly what is say on the box, with a built in DVD , fantasic connection options, everything you ever likely to need and more. The built in 5.1 surround sound is great from the small speakers that are in the unit, of course if you plug it into a external AV unit you will get an even better experience. I have found the picture is not amazing however is certainly impressive enough on my 100 inch screen to make most people who see it go WOW! Try playing a Wii on a 100inch screen I think going back to my 42inch plasma is now so boring! 4 stars because picture not the best

3.0 out of 5 stars Great! If you're not an audio/visualphile or hardcore gamer, 22 Nov 2007
By Mr. P. M. E. Slight (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Firstly I'm naturally annoyed that in the week after I buy this the price drops by nearly 50 quid, but what can you do?

Now, there are many reviews on the Net about the machine itself so I'll just boil it down to laymans terms.
The built-in DVD player can play DVDs from practically anywhere in the world (this includes my pirated DVDs I brought back from China) and as long as you crank the sound up the noise from the machines' cooling fans won't bother you.
The picture quality is good, I would say about 1.8 times better than your normal telly, as long as you keep the screen size down. This projector may be capable of projecting a 10ft-square image but it wasn't designed for that so the result is very blocky-looking/pixellated. Keep the screen size at a max of 2.5 metres (enough for anyone really and it's hard to get projector screens much bigger than that) and you won't notice any difference. Whilst this has an HDMI port for use with future HD products the built-in DVD player is, as far as I know, an HD one. Keep in mind that this is a compromise-based projector, or a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none, so even High Definition won't look as good as it could be.
My PC games look great on this thanks to the computer port (the blue one) but in order to hook up consoles you'll need extra leads.

As far as console gaming goes, BUY ANOTHER PROJECTOR! This projector suffers from something called 'gaming-lag'. If you don't want to Google that term it basically means that most PS2, Xbox and many Gamecube games have a delay similar to that you get with online games like World Of Warcraft when the servers get busy. With a CONSTANT lag of up to half-a-second this makes games totally unplayable, especially ones like Guitar Hero. The Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 are unaffected as they have options on the console itself to change the settings in order to match the projectors (The Wii however works fine despite lacking this option. No clue why. Keeping with the Wii, the motion sensor bar works fine as long as you somehow get it aligned with the middle of the projected image and naturally underneath it so remember to change the sensor bar position option in the Wii's menu). For the ET20 this setting is called 480p. Many older games are 480i or less.

You can get however around this by buying a device called a VGA Adapter. Complicated to say how it works but it fixes the problem. Trouble is the converters cost around £50 on top of the projector plus it may not work. Guess I'll just have to find out...

4.0 out of 5 stars Help!, 9 Sep 2007
By C. Mcguinness "C Mc" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I borrowed an ET20 from my son. I put in the dvd but it wouldn't play (It was compatable with the signs on the case) and wouldn't eject either. I managed to get it out with my fingers but now as my son says "Mother ! What did you do? You've knackered it! Now it won't play any DVD'S.
Does anyone know where I can get it repaired? My son has lost the guarantee. Thank you........C Mc

P.S. I always seem to wreck electrical things.
