5.0 out of 5 stars a solid reliable brand of hard drive 28 Nov 2012
By Barbo

I bought this drive to replace my broken seagate barracuda which failed after two years normal use {common with seagate and western digital}, this toshiba drive is as quick and efficient as a seagate or western digital drive of similar spec and it is very quiet and doesn`t cost the earth, and hopefully it will last as toshiba drives i have used in the past have out lasted the computers they were installed in.

5.0 out of 5 stars God drive, poor packaging 18 Jun 2013
Size Name:2TB|Verified Purchase
I ordered two of these to put in a NAS. They arrived in the noramal Amazon flimsey packaging which may be fine for DVD's, CD's Bluray's etc but not adequate to protect a Hard drive.
Performace wise I am very happy so far and the price was very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars exellent product 18 Feb 2013

I bought this hard drive to upgrade my old one since the windows operating system inevitably bloats itself with updates etc. I had to clone the original drive, which I did with one of the free clone softwares you can find on the net.I used Easus. the actual transfer can take from an hour to several hours depending on your system. Full instructions are available on youtube. once cloned the drive was reconnected in place of the old 'c' drive. I found that on startup the drive was very slow, with programs seeming to take ages to come up, I thought there was something up with it. however, after opening all the programs once, each subsequent opening was at normal, if not faster speed. I realised that it takes a first session to re-establish the routes on the new hard drive to each program. So dont be put off by sluggish performance on the first try. since then it has run flawlessly, and at a great price.

I bought two of these and set them up in a RAID 0 formation in a new build machine as data storage. They do what they are supposed to, seem very quick. Good price as well.

Oops.. 8 days after installation one of the drives started clicking and failed. Fortunately the operating system (Windows 7-64) is on a separate SSD. I switched off and let the box fully cool down. Switched on again and all was fine for a while, long enough to make sure I had a complete backup. Then more clicks and failure. This is the bathtub probability distribution in action: hard drives either have a tiny fault and fail in the first few weeks or they last for years.

I ordered a replacement drive (same model) through Amazon yesterday and it came today and I've swapped out the defective one for return to Amazon. The new one is working well so far and I'm just restoring files to it. The occasional failure is just bad luck and it could happen to any hard drive so I'm not going to mark it down. Four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent disk for a NAS 28 April 2013
Size Name:2TB|Verified Purchase
I bought this to be one of a pair of disks in a RAID1 software array.

The first one of these I received was a dud. On connecting it to the computer it hummed louder than I expected it should have and proceeded to make a loud, regular clicking noise - the so-called click of death.

This was not a problem though, because Amazon's returns policy is excellent and so a replacement drive arrived quickly. On connecting the replacement to the computer it started straight away, running quietly and initialising quickly with no problems to date.

The 2TB are metric terabytes and not binary ones, so there's less than 2TB of actual storage here. Having said that it's ideal for my NAS needs.

The other NAS disk is of a different brand to this, to guard against design and manufacturing defects. Can't be too careful! :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars So far So Good! 19 Mar 2013

I bought this HDD to go into my new build; i have had mutiple PC's/laptop's in the past with different Hard Drive manufacturers, and the only ones that havent failed on me before i replaced the PC/laptop have been Toshiba's. Not noted any problems with this one so far and i would buy another if building another PC.
