3.0 out of 5 stars Remote control issues 24 July 2012
By chiii3

+ USB plays many different video formats
+ wifi and youtube/iplayer work perfectly
+ fairly quiet

- Remote control is bad both in design and signal quality.
- Crashes from time to time when dealing with blu-ray menus.
- Picture viewer can't read .png files

I don't regret buying this product but the remote really is awful, and a markedly worse one than the previous model has. The buttons are very small and hard to press and it has to be pointed directly at the receiver, with fewer than 5 degrees misalignment. Often takes two or three attempts to get it to register.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, great price 15 Sep 2012
By Chris B

This was my first blu-ray player. I didn't want or need 3D capabilities, but I did want something with built-in wi-fi so I could access iPlayer and YouTube. This Toshiba ticked all the boxes, and all for a very good price.

Set-up was easy peasy. Just a matter of plugging it in, connecting the HDMI and turning on the power. The wi-fi connected with no problems, and no software update was needed, so I was ready to go in less than ten minutes.

Blu-ray discs play perfectly, which is always good from a blu-ray player. The iPlayer function seems to work perfectly, though it's a little sluggish to load sometimes. I've not tried YouTube or checked to see how DVDs look upscaled, but so far it's been perfect. The remote is a bit crappy, but there is also a useful Android app which again was simple to get up and running.

If you want a cheap blu-ray player with wi-fi connectivity and some useful features, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money 12 July 2012
Verified Purchase
Although there were not many customer reviews available, I decided to purchase this bluray player reading helpful reviews on techradar and trustedreviews sites. I would recommend going through these reviews before purchase.

In summary I am very happy with video quality for bluray and dvd playback. Picture looks excellent on my full HD TV.

USB playback is very well supported too and I could play everything except divx and wma. I could also play media library files wirelessly from my windows 7 media server.

Only big letdown is the remote control and primitive user interface. Any typing with small remote keys is a nightmare. Especially I ended up pressing return key in error too many times when I actually wanted to press left arrow key above.

Hence in practice I really doubt if anyone would use this player to see online content like Youtube which requires any typing or search. BBC iplayer has standard interface and it can be used once you get used to navigation using the remote.

There is limited online content at the moment - Youtube, BBC iplayer, Acetrax Movies. But I am hoping that more content may be made available in future upgrades which I can download wirelessly on this player.

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. I think its excellent value purchase for this price (75 on amazon) if you can cope up with the remote control or can use some alternative like Android Toshiba remote app on your other smart device.

3.0 out of 5 stars DBX3300KB wakes up in the middle of the night 29 Dec 2012
By Neil B
Verified Purchase
This is just a quick warning for anyone else thinking of using this player in a bedroom (as we have). Whilst connected to the mains, it will wake up in the middle of the night (around 4am UK time), presumably to check for firmware updates. As we've connected it to a CEC enabled Toshiba TV, it turns on too!

I've checked through the menu's to see if I can turn off the feature, but so far I've failed.

Other than this behaviour (which is why I only gave it 3 stars), the player seems fine. The drive is a little noisy, but not too bad.

If I can't figure out a way to disable the automatic waking, I'm considering returning it to Amazon.

Update: Turning off the wifi connection (so it isn't on the network at all) seems to have stopped the automatic turning on in the middle of the night. Bit of a pain to have to set it up again if you want to use iPlayer or YouTube.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a hidden gem. 7 July 2012
Verified Purchase
I could only find one review on-line for this which gave it 4.5 out of 5, they only marked it down for not playing certain media types. But what ever I've thrown at mine via USB it has played. Picture and sound are first rate, better than my old Sony 360.

But the real bonus is it's wifi. Upgraded itself once it found the router, which is easy to do. Then I downloaded the android Toshiba remote app for my Galaxy SII and my android tablet and with my Tosiba Regza TV the whole lot works via my mobile or tablet like a dream, far better than the TV and BD remotes.

I paid 79 and Amazon threw in the HDMI lead for free. All this and I ordered it on the afternoon and it arrived the next morning.

Probably the best all-round buying experience I've had.

Added 30/7/12

Just bought two more at this new price for family members.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor 21 May 2013
By Gav1977
If, like me you are buying this to upscale your dvd collection and play Blu-ray, I found that the dvd quality is terrible from close ups of faces to things in the back round, the clarity is much worse than the cheap and nasty 25 quid Foehn & Hirsch dvd upscaler that it was supposed to be replacing. As other reviews, I also found the remote was a bit naff, similar to those dodgy ones you can buy from the local pound shop. To top it all off, I spoke to the Toshiba support team and they were about as much good as a chocolate fireguard and didn't want to know. I will be avoiding this brand in the future and this Blu-ray is going straight back. One plus is that the Wifi did work, that is the only good point though.
