To view a 3D film, each of the two different perspectives must reach the relevant eye. In cinemas and on 3D TV's, irrespective of technical design differences, this is achieved by wearing special glasses, which ensure that each eye only receives the relevant images.
In a 3D TV with Active Shutter Technology the images for the left and right eyes are shown in very quick succession. The interval between images is transferrred to the viewer's glasses via an infra-red signal synchronising image playback.
Shutter technology in the glasses ensures that only one eye at a time receives its relevant image. This happens so quickly that the viewer is only aware of an smooth continuous 3D image.
