Manufacturer's Description

The REGZA XV series is a range of Full HD 1080p Ready LCD televisions, blending superb picture and audio quality and delivering it in a stylish high gloss black design. All Regza XV's feature Resolution+ technology which enhances standard definition content to virtually high definition quality. EcoPanel is also featured and is designed to consume significantly less power than a conventional LCD TV without comprising on picture quality. The Regza XV series delivers an amazing 100 frames per second thanks to Active Vision M100HD Pro picture processing technology which reduces image blurring to leave you with smoother action even in those fast-paced scenes. Integrated Dolby Volume stops those annoying changes in volume levels in advert breaks and when switching between channels and sources, providing a consistent volume level at all times.

Resolution+
Toshiba's unique and critically-acclaimed Resolution+ upscaling technology takes everyday standard definition content and instantly enhances it to virtually high definition picture quality by improving edge detail and texture.

With Resolution+, your 1080p Toshiba LCD TV will produce near HD picture quality on all standard definition TV, DVD and downloaded content you watch while still delivering the most pure and stunning picture quality possible from all high definition sources. This complex and intricate process of constantly and instantly improving the images which appear on the screen is made possible by the Meta Brain processing engine, unique to REGZA models. This powerful processing chip has its heritage in Toshiba´s esteemed history in the semiconductor research and development.

Watch as your favourite movies, programmes and games become clearer, richer and sharper than ever before with Toshiba, and Resolution+

Eco Panel
Toshiba REGZA LCD TVs which feature EcoPanel are specially designed to consume significantly less power than a conventional LCD TV without comprising on picture quality.

Toshiba's EcoPanel technology utilises materials of the highest possible quality and clarity to construct an LCD panel so translucent that as much as half as much light is required to illuminate it as compared to conventional panels.

A TV with a conventional LCD panel requires powerful backlights to illuminate the screen. This is where most of the power consumption comes from. By reducing the amount of light required to brighten the screen, REGZA LCD TVs with EcoPanel can deliver the same brilliant HD picture quality, with almost half the power.

With EcoPanel, you can relax knowing that Toshiba's green LCD TV technology is being kind to the environment and saving you up to 45% of your TV's energy consumption*, all while providing you with the same cutting-edge features and exceptional picture quality.

*Comparing the 32RV635 with EcoPanel compared to Toshiba's 32XV505DB model

Active Vision M100 Pro
100Hz Active Vision M100 Pro technology allows you to see fast-paced action and sports like never before. Even with Full HD 1080p picture quality, clarity and detail is lost with fast-moving action. This is because on a conventional 50Hz television, the frames which are shown do not refresh fast enough to keep up with the pace of the action you are watching. Conventional LCD TVs will show every frame you watch at a rate of 50Hz, or 50 frames per second. Active Vision M100 Pro works by creating new frames to appear in between the original transmitted frames, doubling the standard number of frames per second. It uses 360 degree motion estimation, complex mathematics and 10-bit video processing, each made possible by Toshiba's powerful in-house semiconductor technology, to calculate the movement required by each pixel. Each frame is only held on screen for 1/100th of a second to eliminate pixel drift and reduce blurring. The result is seamless motion, smooth action and a new level of detail. Active Vision 100 Pro has to be seen to be believed.

Dolby Volume
Dolby Volume stops those annoying changes in volume levels in advert breaks and when switching between channels and sources, providing a consistent volume level at all times. This feature eliminates the need for you to keep reaching for the remote control every time an advert break comes on, and then again when the program you are watching resumes.

When changing between channels and TV to DVD etc, the volume can also increase or decrease significantly. Dolby Volume keeps the volume at one level, making sure it doesn't change when the input changes.

The result is an extraordinarily improved viewing experience, one free of the constant need to adjust the volume.

AutoView
Toshiba's unique technology that automatically adjusts picture settings depending on not only the room lighting, which is common feature on quality LCD TVs these days, but also the content shown on screen. The technology eliminates the need to constantly have to adjust the backlight brightness and colour settings in order to find the best viewing experience in all environments.

The ambient light sensor is constantly analysing the room lighting and adjusting the LCD's backlight to suit. Through the use of this technology the viewer is provided with a more comfortable viewing experience in all lighting conditions. Content viewed on screen is also constantly analysed. Dark and bright pixels shown on screen are monitored and picture settings are adjusted to provide the best possible image.

AutoView means that your REGZA LCD TV is always performing at its full potential, delivering the best possible picture quality at all times.

Game Mode
Models in the XV Series have an exciting new feature for the gamers amongst you - Game Mode. This feature is designed to enhance the gaming experience by ensuring the best possible aspect ratios and response time of the television to the gaming console. Game Mode bypasses much of the picture processing technology required to enhance TV programmes and films, resulting in an improved response time and screen refresh rate.

Game Mode is compatible with any HDMI equipped games console and automatically adjusts the picture to deliver a more realistic game setting and importantly 1:1 pixel mapping. This allows every last detail of the original image to be shown without cropping the edges; giving the online gamer a distinct advantage over opponents without Game Mode and improving the overall gaming experience for even the most casual of gamers.

Full Power Down
We have fitted an On/Off switch in response to the concerns expressed by many consumers who would prefer to turn their television off completely.

All models are extremely energy efficient, but we take our responsibility to the environment seriously and will always do everything we can to minimise the impact our products have on our surroundings.

Digital TV
Between now and the end of 2012 the UK will be turning off all old "analogue" TV transmitters and switching your TV signal to "digital". Digital TV offers new ways to enjoy your TV. You will have a greater choice of TV channels as well as access to additional features and services which will enhance your TV-watching experience.

When the digital switch happens in your area, your older analogue TVs will no longer be able to pick up a signal. To keep your normal TV service running, you will need to convert your TVs to digital before your area's switchover date.

Switching your home to digital is easy. All you need to do is purchase digital tuner and connect it to your analogue TV or alternatively, you can replace it with a new digital TV. All Toshiba LCD TVs carry the Digital Tick and come with Freeview built-in, making them the ideal option for preparing your home for the digital switch.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem of a TV..., 23 July 2009

R. Patel "Bush4ever" (Texas) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Toshiba Regza 42XV635DB 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 100Hz LCD TV with Freeview (Electronics)
I recently gave away my beloved 40W4500 to my father as his old Panny died on him. I had my mind set on purchasing the new Sony Z series, but after my second child managed to damage my DVD tray on my dvd recorder (due to a momentary lapse of concentration) I did not want to risk it. I recently seen the 42XV635DB at a showroom nearby and thought it looked good for the price (which was around £630+ on the net). I thought why not and took the plunge. I've had a Tosh before so I wasn't expecting anything bad.

Anyway, the first thing you will notice is that it has ample connections, 4 HDMI, 2 SCART's and the usual stuff like component etc. Aesthetically the 42xv635db looks very nice, it has a glossy thin frame and a very thin speaker grill/bar at the bottom(Although the speaker grill looks thin, don't be fooled). The sound this TV produces is extremely good. The sound is full and rich with clarity. I assume this is due to the Audyssey Dynamic EQ feature. It also has the ability to playback MP3, DivX etc through the USB port, which by the way is pretty fast in displaying photos etc. It also has a full power down button on the left, which I think is very handy(as I power down all my kit at night).

As I have used the Sony 40W4500 for nearly a year, I have a good TV to compare against. Firstly, the blacks on this TV is on par with the 40W4500, i.e. they are very good. But, what impressed me the most on this TV was the colours they are more natural and also seem allot deeper. 3D Cartoons etc seem more 3D like and display greater clarity, the colours and gradients are more strking, everything just seems more natural. I wasn't expecting this but it did make a difference on my viewing. The Sony was good and I had calibrated it with reference from the avforums site. But, they just didn't have that certain bang in colour. Another great thing is the SD picture it is much better, I guess this is due to the Resolution+, which upscales the image( It isn't anything life changing, but it is good), it is definetly better than the Sony, the Sony's big weakness was it's SD resolution quality. Not, that I watch much SD stuff, but on the odd occassion I do.

One thing this TV has is allot of functionality, you can drown yourself in the number of settings. Although, if you really want to optimise the picture and audio quality you can do some real neat stuff. I made a few changes to the standard settings and the outcome is much better after the changes. You can play with the colour management settings; this allows you to adjust the colour to achieve D65 if you want(obviously you'll need reference software and your laptop connected to achieve this).

Now for the HD stuff, I must admit this is just as good as the 40W4500 if a bit better. The Sony was great and so is this TV. The images are striking, deep and full of life. The HD images are very detailed and full of clarity. At times it felt the Tosh trumps the 40W4500 in colour rendition, my Hulk blu-ray just looks astounding. It also has 1080p/24. I cannot fault the TV for HD images, they really are that good. The colour pallete seems extensive and produces very natural colours, but I guess it should as it is a 10-bit panel, with a 10-bit processing engine. At this price it is brilliant.

Secondly, for gaming I am sensitive to lag and one reason I chose the 40W4500 was due to it being great for gaming, this is just as good if not better. I was playing SFIV and I notice no lag whatsoever. It was fast and the action was brilliant, no blurring or any of the old LCD problems here. I have to praise the panel in the gaming department it felt a bit better when playing games, I am not sure if it's due to the colours or just the panel can handle the images better.

On this panel there is no backlight bleeding or clouding, on the 40W4500 I had very slight backlight bleeding, but the panel on the 42XV635DB seems to have none whatsoever, I'm not sure if it's due to the new eco panel, but it seems damn good. Most LCD panels have a slight issue, this is the first one not to have one(so I am definetly very impressed with the panel).

Another thing this panel has is M100HD pro 100hz processing (MCFI). When enabled does improve dramtically the image on fast action sports like football or F1. In this department it is as good as the 40W4500. they both seem the same to me, well the Sony was pretty good in this department anyway.

Bottomline, there is allot on this TV for the price, but the most important thing is that this TV produces outstanding images for the price. SD is well above average and HD performance is simply stunning. For this price I thoroughly recommend this TV. I was expecting something very different but it blew me a away.
To put it simply I was expecting a mouse, but it came out to be a behemoth of a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Kudos to Toshiba for bringing out a superb TV at such an affordable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Regza 42XV635DB LCD TV, 16 Sep 2009

This review is from: Toshiba Regza 42XV635DB 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 100Hz LCD TV with Freeview (Electronics)
I ordered this TV from Amazon on the 14th September after our 12 year old CRT set finally gave up the ghost. The TV arrived on the morning of the 15th (next day delivery is well worth it) and is fantastic. We had spent a long time researching the internet for 37 to 50 inch LCD or Plasma screen TVs and decided on this one after reading reviews from buyers and review web sites. we have only been using it for one day but for the price it is quite remarkable. From taking it out of the box to watching our first programme took less than 20 minutes, and that included assembling the stand. The picture is enthralling, even on standard freeview and DVD. The sound is more than good enough for our average sized family living room and gives good detail both on sports coverage and film watching. The whole experience is quite immersive and our children think we have moved into a cinema. we like the energy saving features, we can switch the main power off when not in use, and the way the picture adjusts automatically on top of all the other features. Our only difficulty is what to watch next. I would recommend thoroughly that you consider this set for a simple to use, good quality and value for money larger screen TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV! Love it., 31 Oct 2009
This review is from: Toshiba Regza 42XV635DB 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 100Hz LCD TV with Freeview (Electronics)
This is my first ever HD TV and I have done several weeks of research on HDTV. My only purpose of buying this TV at the time was for my PS3 Slim who kindly given to me as a present by my wife. With the old CRT television it felt that it didn't do justice to the games and decided to get an HDTV. First was to find out if I want an LCD, Plasma or LED. Plasma was my first choice at the time and nearly bought a Panasonic 50" G10. But then after further research I had a second thought. LED is too expensive at this time and since standard broadcast is also in my consideration I thought it won't be worth it. LCD is then my final option. I looked at Samsung 5th generation LCDs and Sony W5500 as well. Though I have only seen some demo at Curry's and Comet, I thought I would get one of them. But then I looked at the alternatives as well and noticed this Toshiba 42XV. I have a friend who has a Toshiba LCD TV but I didn't like it as it was blurry on moving objects and thought the brand is not synonymous with television. But I was happy with the display in the shop and happy with the price. I almost bought it but I had a second thought(like always). I wanted to find out more about this Toshiba TV. To my surprise, the TV had some great reviews and the price is great for the size of the TV. Further research also unearthed a £100 from Toshiba until Nov 11. I bought the TV here on Amazon on a Saturday afternoon and thought I would receive it late the following week. To my surprise, it was delivered on a Monday afternoon. Woohoo!

First impression of the TV is great. Great packaging, assembly instructions is good and the TV has a glossy finish to it. Assembly is very simple. This thing is lighter than my old TV. 8 screws to fit for the standing position. Tuning the TV is simple enough and then you are ready to go. The quality of the picture is great and with the digital channels all look superb. I didn't tweak the picture settings as I thought they are fine for us. The standard broadcast displayed on the TV is so great it looks HD already. Some people said it is like watching normal TV channels in almost high definition. PS3 games are awesome on this TV. Crisp and clear graphics with no delay and in perfect colour all the time. Sound is superb as well though I have not tested it but it is good enough for the size of our living room.

All in all, great TV for the size and the price is superb. Get your £100 cashback by registering the TV on Toshiba's website and post the necessary documents using recorded service. Keep the receipt with you.
