I recently purchased the Toshiba 40VL758B LED TV from Amazon, having spent quite a considerable length of time searching all the reviews that I could and also going to stores that had the TV on display. With a limited budget I knew what I wanted and I have always researched a future purchase quite vigorously as I do not like buying items on the spur of the moment only to find that it wasn't what you wanted. I knew that from a quality point of view that there would be no problem with Toshiba, but I had read some poor reviews on this TV, it must be noted however that most of the reviews were comparing it to TV's almost double the price and in some cases a lot more.
One of the main area's of concern was the sound quality, but after comparing the Toshiba to other higher priced TV's I came to the conclusion that the sound Navi 5 band equalizer could be used to tweak the sound output to an acceptable tone. I also had concerns with WLM-10U2 Dual Band WLAN Adapter as the reviews indicated that there was a problem with getting this side of the TV up and running, but I thought for the additional price of the adapter if this was a problem area then if things did not work out it was not a great expense.
I have now been using the TV for nearly 2 weeks and I must confess that I am over the moon with it, the picture quality is stunning and the sound quality is satisfyingly good. The design of this TV is quite exceptional as the front is a one piece of glass with a matching glass covered stand, there are no buttons or switches on the front, but there are touch sensors that react to your fingers and light up when you activate them.
The rear connections cater for about any scenario that you may wish for with 4 HDMI inputs, 2 USB inputs, 1 Scart in/out, EX 1, EX 2, EX 3, PC or ATV.
I was not looking forward to plugging in the WLAN Adapter after reading the reviews on the subject, however I was pleasantly surprised when the TV connected with the home network in the easy setup option without a hitch, within a couple of minutes I was watching YouTube. The only problem that I encountered was that I had to move my home hub to obtain a better reception for the TV as it was struggling at times due to 2 solid brick walls.
I think that this TV is one hell of a piece of kit, the picture is stunning, the sound is very good as long as you get to know the controls and tweak the sound Navi equalizer to achieve the tone that you require. The design is exceptional and the connectivity is very comprehensive and into the bargain you can watch YouTube on it as well as BBC iplayer.
I think the Toshiba 40VL758B LED TV is exceptional good value for money and can hold it's own against TV's of a higher price, I myself am totally satisfied with the TV and I am very pleased and consider that I purchased a bargain.
I have edited this review to add information about the reflectiveness of the screen on the Toshiba LED, it is unfortunate but to my knowledge the LED and Plasma screens that I have seen are all very reflective. I have checked out the technical issue and the manufacturers state that the quality of the display will not be as apparent without the perfect reflective screen, I found the fact that all LED screens were very reflective was a great issue with myself after looking for some time for the right TV package. In the end I had to accept that it's the way they do it and if you look into the theory of it you begin to understand, however I have not found the reflectiveness to be an issue when using the TV, in fact the only time you really notice it is when you are watching a very dark scene and you have a very bright light on to the front of the screen. At the same time the position of the TV is facing away from the window and you do not have any problem watching TV in bright daylight, but I have a couple of friends who have positioned their TV either facing the window or at 90o to the window and they both have trouble when watching TV through the day. It is recommended however for the best viewing experience the TV screen should always be faced away from the window and I have always positioned all my TV's over the years as so. It may be worth mentioning that in my experience if you watch an LCD screen that faces a window the screen always looks pasty or faded and lacks any clarity and the brighter the day the worse this effect has on the picture.
