This book is a gem of observational stills photography. It's about the sometimes awkward relationship between those who hope to represent us, and those whose approval they seek.

As a lifelong Labour voter I can also say that its appeal is much wider than the Tory heartland, and there are some laugh-out-loud moments in it.

I just wish I hadn't lent it to someone who hasn't brought it back!

bl***y good read 13 July 2001

I found this book fascinating on many levels- the photos document social and political history but the book is also very entertaining & funny, and I think its appeal stretches far beyond members of the Conservative party.

After 45 years as an active member of the conservative and unionist party, I was delighted to read this homage to the party I love. Mr Modell clearly knows and loves his subject, from a delightful portrait of William Hague urging us to keep the pound to the eager young faces of the next generation at conference. Mr Modell has caught them all in his lens (with his eye) and framed the future (in his photos).
