Product Description

Review

When you have read this book, pass it to your children. No

generation should miss this story.

(Rob Parsons)

It's a Christian classic. Approach with

prayer. It could change your life.

(Rob Frost)

This book was singularly instrumental in awaking the conscience of the free

world to the horrors experienced by our brothers and sisters behind the iron

curtain. I remember reading the book many years ago and being deeply moved

and convicted. Millions of others were as well.

(Charles W. Colson, Prison Fellowship Ministries)

Tortured for Christ made an impact on my life as a recently converted

teenager in the sixties. I welcome this new edition of Tortured for Christ and pray that its story

will shake many twenty first century Christians out of their complacency

towards those who around the world today are still tortured for their

Christian witness.

(Rev John S. Smith, UK Director, Evangelical Allian)

Book Description

Neither prison nor torture can frighten the Christians of the Underground Church.

Richard Wurmbrand was a Romanian Jew who discovered Jesus was Messiah. He became a christian pastor and suffered under the Nazis. However this suffering was nothing to be compared to what was to come under communism. Thrown into jail (totalling 14 years) he endured unspeakable tortures and depravation but given grace from God he amazingly endured and was released with pressure and ransom money from Norway. This book is an essential read for all people, Christian and otherwise both to show the depths of evil to which man can descend but also the keeping power of God to those who put their trust in Jesus Christ. Richard Wurmbrand still had love for his torturers knowing that any sinner can come to repentance.

We hear much about religious persecution these days. This is the story of Richard Wurmbrand, a Christian Pastor in Eastern Europe, who endured some twenty years of imprisonment and dreadful physical torture at the hands of communist regimes. His wife was also imprisoned for some of the time and she endured the torture of not knowing whether her husband was alive or dead.

They only 'escaped' when the communist regime in Romania 'sold' them to Christians in Norway.

A story all Christians should read.

Makes you realise how lucky we are in this country to be able to pray and worship in safety and freedom. How many people in the world are not allowed this basic human freedom, Richard Wurmbrand was one of the unlucky ones, imprisoned and abused for his faith. Great read would recomend to anybody who values their freedom of speech.

How can a man humiliated, beaten and tortured and then forgive the very people who did it? Christ is the answer. This is a complete testament of how far Christ can bring a man - he is not greater than anyone else, only in Jesus! The most astonishing book, by an astonishing man fuelled by AN ASTONISHING SAVIOUR!

The Christians behind the Iron Curtain faced lots of persecution. And after 14 years in Romanian prisons, Wurmbrand should be well qualified to tell us about it. Unfortunately, he only gives us brief descriptions about life among the christians in Romania, and spends most of the book preaching about the evils of communism and atheism (he doesn't seem to make much distinction between the two), complaining that christians in the west are lazy for not doing more to fight communism, and telling the readers to give money to his charity so he can send bibles into communist countries, because only christianity can defeat communism.

This book was a very short and quick read but I felt more annoyed than informed by it.

This book really opened my eyes as to the extreme and unjust suffering of Christians that goes on in Communist countries simply because of their faith in Christ.

I never realised these things happened in this day and age and it was a real shocker that moved me deeply enough to become an advocate for Wurmbrand's Release International (information about this organisation is provided at the end of the book). I thank the Lord for this ministry of which I am now an active part of.

Makes me count my blessings that I live in the West and do not have to suffer such hardship that our Christian brothers and sisters have to undergo in countries where Christianity is looked upon as a crime. Never forget them.

The story was very interesting and challenging. However I found the use of the - very annoying it seems to have been inser-ted at the most inco-nvieniant times through out the book I dont know if this is in the original book or something kindle have done. I would recommend the book to both Christians and non-chrisians as it is certiasnly a tale of human courage and faith.

It was an excellent picture of what Christians suffered for being a Christian in Russia. It is a real eye-opener to the extent of what what was dished up to them. The same thing is going on in China and other countries today. I wonder if this will happen in Great Britain and whether we will be able to stand up for our faith in our Lord and Saviour.
