Book Description

Torture Me! A Dark Depraved Tale of Sin and Sex in the Garden of Evil Ecstasy is a deliciously disturbing erotic novel, recognised as a cult classic of Sadomasochism. The portrayal of ancient methods of torture as an artform - is both beautiful and horrifically shocking.

The story begins with a philosophical discussion about the role of murder in society. Many of the ideas are confronting and unpopular, but potent with the horrible truth of human nature behind them. The writer, Octave Mirbeau, (an atheist and anarchist) constantly challenges the reader through out the novel - with his scathing view of humanity, the hypocrisy, corruption, evil of the world and human condition. He explores the dual nature of life - love is death, beauty is pain, and torture is ecstasy.

This is the twisted tale of a young Frenchman (a corrupted politician) who meets the beautiful (on the outside) aristocratic Clara, who invites him to China. Clara has a fetishistic desire of death and torture - she sees it as beautiful and wildly sexually arousing. She seduces the Frenchman with her wicked enchanting web and takes him to the Torture Garden. This is an unreal place of beauty and death, which grows amazing exotic flowers in soil fertile from the blood and bones of the executed. The man wants to leave but is too weak, he is captivated by Clara's physical beauty but is sickened her dark nature. He begins to see the 'civilised' world as a thinly disguised veil of the Torture Garden (thus the garden serves as an allegory to the brutal, cruel tendencies of humanity and corrupt decay of the modern world).

Sexually explicit, with hardcore sexual torture, violence and bondage - this book shocked the world when first published 100 years ago. Intelligently written, with great artistic and philosophical merit, Torture Me! is an unique experience - intended to both arouse and disturb.

- This Kindle version is beautifully illustrated with unique vintage erotica pictures.

- Includes Linked table of contents.

- Bonus addition of three excellent essays on The Art of Sex - On the biological and cultural evolution of human sexuality and how we can use this knowledge to enhance our sexual relationships.

FROM THE BOOK:

"A light flashed in her green pupils, and in a low, almost raucous voice, she said: 'I'll teach you terrible things... divine things... you'll know at last what love really is! I promise you'll descend with me to the very depths of the mystery of love... and death!' And smiling an evil smile which made a shiver run through my bones, she said again: 'Poor baby! You thought yourself a great debauchee... a great rebel! Ah! your little remorse... do you remember! And now your soul is as timid as a little child's!'

.. The smells that arose from the crowd - smells of the latrine and the slaughterhouse, the stink of corpses and the perfumes of living flesh - nauseated me and chilled me to the marrow. .. She was unrestrained and delighted in the midst of this crowd whose odor she inhaled, and to whose repugnant embraces she submitted with a sort of swooning lust. She offered her body - all her lithe and vibrant body - to the brutality, the blows, and the clawing. Her white skin was now a glowing pink; her eyes reflected a languid thrill of sensual delight; her lips were swollen, like firm buds ready to blossom."

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of time! 24 Aug. 2012

Unlike many books I have read over the years, it is hard to get started but unlike the many, it never got any better. It was a complete waste of money and that is hard for me to admit since I love to read. So if this title interests you I would suggest you try and make it through the preview before spending your hard earned cash. If you can get through the preview the book may be for you. But I would seriously doubt you make it that far. So don't waste your $$$

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story, worth the price & just a few typos 6 Oct. 2011

First, I must mention that I believe the title is incorrect. I am not certain, but I think this is 'The Torture Garden' rather than 'Torture Me'. Maybe the name was changed for this version due to legal reasons?

The price is right for this version of such a hard to find novel, which includes wonderful erotic pictures, as well as two essays. There are several typos and only a few punctuation mistakes, but it does not hinder the understanding of the sentence or take away from the beauty of the story itself. This is written with a lot of archaic words we do not see very often in English but that is where I found the dictionary function on the kindle very helpful.

Its not an excessively long story either, and both the essays help put the story in perspective for those who are new to the genre.

I strongly recommend this to fans of Bataille, De Sade and Poe.
