I bought this book in order to teach the Year 2 National Literacy Strategy for term 2 which focusses on stories from different cultures. I have to say that this book was the most popular book I have ever read to Year 2 childern! They are still asking for it to be read to them weeks on. The detail of setting is fantastic, and from it the children wrote their own African stories. I have also used it to do mind maps wiht the children, write postcards, link in Geography and many other lessons. A must for every Year 2 teacher, and any parent looking for a brilliant book with which to engage their children!

A fantastic book to supply teach infants with - can get 2 days work from this book with ease - they LOVE it. My copy got lost at a school - I can't believe how much it will cost me to replace it though!

HASH(0x9e34af78) out of 5 stars Very apealing 3 Oct. 2004

This book is beautifully illustrated with all the details of an African tapestry. It has a wonderful dreamlike quality, and an incredible rhythm that will appeal to children, as each of the animals sets off on the quest to find the Omumbo-rombonga tree, dreamed of by tortoise, but each fails in turn when they look around and forget the magical name of the tree.

It also has a great message, as after having eaten from the tree, at the end, each animal plants a seed that will provide a different fruit for the animals to eat from.
