‘Torres has already achieved legend status at Liverpool’ Jamie Carragher

Product Description

Fernando Torres is one of the hottest properties in world football. From local Madrid idol to Kop hero and European Championship winner, he talks here for the first time about the unique challenges faced in his two years in England, with candid snapshots of his life on and off the field.

At the age of 25, Spain’s Fernando Torres has already established himself as one of the Liverpool greats and a proud wearer of the fabled No 9 shirt.

His first book provides a captivating illustrated story of his career to date, alongside candid snapshots of his early life in Madrid, as a child football prodigy and lifelong fan of local club Atletico.

Nicknamed ‘El Nino’ (The Kid), Torres opens up about life on the streets besides Atletico’s Vicente Calderon stadium, signing for the club at the age of 15 and appointed club captain by 19, becoming, as one local journalist put it, ‘one part folk hero, one part native son, one part messiah.’

When Liverpool broke their club transfer record to bring Torres to Anfield in July 2007, it proved the turning point in his career. Competing in the goldfish bowl of the English Premier League, settling into the NorthWest and playing alongside Liverpool heroes like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, in the company of Spanish team-mates Pepe Reina, Xavi Alonso and Albert Rieira, and performing in front of the Kop who quickly adopted him as one of their own – Torres describes what it means to him to play on one of the greatest stages in world football, and compares and contrasts life in Spain with his new career in England.

Away from the football, Torres talks about life out of the spotlight with his childhood sweetheart Ollala, his family and friends, and what inspires and motivates him.

Firstly, i would like to applaud Amazon for the super fast deliver and services. I patron this site in the future :)

Secondy, i would like to say that this book is really really awesome! Being a Torres fan for over 3 years, i really recommend this book to any football fans because it's really worth to read. What is really interesting is that, this book is not so boring. Meaning, interesting font sizez and colours are used unlike the normal ones found in books that make us sleepy. Torres's childhood pictures and pictures of him doing "normal" stuffs like cooking and driving is really funny. His words are clear and understandable. From his perspective, we know what he has gone through, from language and food. No matter how much he says he love Liverpool, one can feel that Torres still has a very special feeling for Athletico.

As a long-time Liverpool fan & avid reader I was keen to read Fernando Torres own story and have to say I was disappointed when I picked this book up & flicked through the pages to see that it was far from a "hefty volume". That said I bought it anyway, aware that I wasn't about to get an in-depth story about the Number 9's life so far.

It's fair to say this book was published in an attempt to attract all ages, however this is where it fails. A traditional autobiography may have been devoured by older Liverpool fans but it wouldn't appeal to the massive younger fanbase. With "el Nino - my story" Harper Sport have simply pitched it halfway & produced a relatively lightweight book chock-full of glossy photo's & could easily be read in less than a couple of hours. It's not to say it's not a decent enough read but it's very light on the ground & predictably LFC-friendly.

Even though the book has obviously been approved by LFC's Media Team, I felt I could read between the lines & determine that Fernando holds Luis Aragones in higher esteem than Rafa Benitez & that in all honesty he was more aware of Arsenal, Chelsea and dare I say it Manchester United than he was of Liverpool until he decided to make the jump to Britain & was quickly clued-up on the history of the most successful club in the country.

As above, this is a decent buy for adult Liverpool fans but I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more if I was still in my early teens with posters of Torres & Co adorning my bedroom walls

Christmas Gift 6 Oct 2009
By Liz Red
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautifully produced book. As said before this is not an autobiography like Carragher and Gerrard. It is an illustrated book. The pictures are really good and the little details are beautiful
I would recommend this book as a gift for any Torres fan

Torres-El Nino
Bought for my 17 year old son who never reads books. He said it was one of his favourite Christmas presents. Probably not of interest if you aren't a Torres fan though!
