Product Description

‘Torres has already achieved legend status at Liverpool’ Jamie Carragher

Product Description

Fernando Torres is one of the hottest properties in world football. From local Madrid idol to Kop hero and European Championship winner, he talks here for the first time about the unique challenges faced in his two seasons in England, with candid snapshots of his early years in Spain and life in the North West on and off the field.

At the age of 25, Spain’s Fernando Torres has already established himself as one of the Liverpool greats and a proud wearer of the fabled No 9 shirt.

His first book, framed within 25 pivotal themes of his life, provides a captivating illustrated story of his career to date, alongside revealing insights into his formative years in Madrid, as a child football prodigy and lifelong fan of local club Atletico.

Nicknamed ‘El Nino’ (The Kid), Torres opens up about life on the streets besides Atletico’s Vicente Calderon stadium, signing for the club at aged 15 and appointed club captain by 19, becoming, as one local journalist put it, ‘one part folk hero, one part native son, one part messiah.’

When Liverpool broke their club transfer record to bring Torres to Anfield in July 2007, it proved the turning point in his career. Competing in the goldfish bowl of the English Premier League, settling into the North West and playing alongside Liverpool heroes like Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, in the company of Spanish team-mates Pepe Reina, Xavi Alonso and Albert Rieira, and performing in front of the Kop who quickly adopted him as one of their own – Torres describes what it means to him to play on one of the greatest stages in world football, and compares and contrasts life in Spain with his new career in England.

Away from the football, Torres talks about life out of the spotlight with his family and close friends, and what inspires and motivates him.

3.0 out of 5 stars Part Picture Book / Part Autobiography 10 Dec. 2009
As a long-time Liverpool fan & avid reader I was keen to read Fernando Torres own story and have to say I was disappointed when I picked this book up & flicked through the pages to see that it was far from a "hefty volume". That said I bought it anyway, aware that I wasn't about to get an in-depth story about the Number 9's life so far.

It's fair to say this book was published in an attempt to attract all ages, however this is where it fails. A traditional autobiography may have been devoured by older Liverpool fans but it wouldn't appeal to the massive younger fanbase. With "el Nino - my story" Harper Sport have simply pitched it halfway & produced a relatively lightweight book chock-full of glossy photo's & could easily be read in less than a couple of hours. It's not to say it's not a decent enough read but it's very light on the ground & predictably LFC-friendly.

Even though the book has obviously been approved by LFC's Media Team, I felt I could read between the lines & determine that Fernando holds Luis Aragones in higher esteem than Rafa Benitez & that in all honesty he was more aware of Arsenal, Chelsea and dare I say it Manchester United than he was of Liverpool until he decided to make the jump to Britain & was quickly clued-up on the history of the most successful club in the country.

As above, this is a decent buy for adult Liverpool fans but I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more if I was still in my early teens with posters of Torres & Co adorning my bedroom walls

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR EVERY REDS' FAN 7 Oct. 2009
Firstly, i would like to applaud Amazon for the super fast deliver and services. I patron this site in the future :)

Secondy, i would like to say that this book is really really awesome! Being a Torres fan for over 3 years, i really recommend this book to any football fans because it's really worth to read. What is really interesting is that, this book is not so boring. Meaning, interesting font sizez and colours are used unlike the normal ones found in books that make us sleepy. Torres's childhood pictures and pictures of him doing "normal" stuffs like cooking and driving is really funny. His words are clear and understandable. From his perspective, we know what he has gone through, from language and food. No matter how much he says he love Liverpool, one can feel that Torres still has a very special feeling for Athletico.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Gift 6 Oct. 2009
By Liz Red
This is a beautifully produced book. As said before this is not an autobiography like Carragher and Gerrard. It is an illustrated book. The pictures are really good and the little details are beautiful
I would recommend this book as a gift for any Torres fan

5.0 out of 5 stars Fernando Oh Oh Oh Oh 22 Dec. 2009
This book has been an inspiration to me. Currently I am plying my trade with Blissett FC on a tues night over at Goals in Northampton, I have ankle ligament damage so I am out of action for 4 months!
However after reading this astonishing book I have decided not to give up on my blossoming football career and get my self fit and back in action within the next 2 months!
My target is to get selected for the awesome Redbulls Team who play on a monday night at Goals, this book has given me all the encouragement and installed a winning mentality in me. Thanks Fernando, you are the greatest!

This is a really interesting book. It's not an autobiography per say, more of a mix of short stories and insights into the life of El Nino.

A good mix of pictures and quotes brighten up the glossy pages, and at this price i would recommend it to any Liverpool fans/Atletico Fans, and football fans in general. Without getting too personal Fernando gives you a good insight into his roots, the life of a modern day footballer, and a little bit about the Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez. He also talks about the charities he works with, and the difficulties of crossing from sunny Spain over to Anfield, language barrier and all.

Unless you are anti Liverpool I would recommend this book to all football fans, don't expect a thoroughly introspective autobiography, but it certainly isn't the polar opposite either. A good read from a great player and a really nice guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 26 Sept. 2009
Lovely book. Full of information, full of pictures. Some of it you'll know already if you are a fan, but there is enough to keep anyone interested. Really nicely laid out too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Torres - my story 19 Oct. 2009
And what a story it is. A book that tells the story of a fantastic young player, from his early days at Atletico Madrid to the present, playing for Liverpool.

The pictures are an insite to his life from when he first played and was told he wouldnt be recognised, to the star attraction he has become.

A story well worth reading, for any football fan or boy hoping to become the next El Nino. A must for every Liverpool FC fan .

5.0 out of 5 stars Torres: El Nino: My Story 2 Jan. 2010
By Claire
Great book, a must-read for any Liverpool or Torres fan. Gives a real insight into what it's like from the other side - Fernando's perspective on all the big moments the fans remember, from his signing, to his first goal, to winning and losing the big ones with Liverpool and Atletico, but also shows the private side, his family life and adjusting to a new country and lifestyle. Really good read, great pictures too!
